Boston Aims Higher

#1 Postby donsutherland1 » Wed Mar 23, 2005 11:05 pm

Since regular recordkeeping began in 1891-92, Winter 2004-05 has now risen to 4th on the all-time list:

Code: Select all

Season   Snowfall
1995-96   107.0"
1993-94    96.3"
1947-48    89.2"
2004-05    86.1"
1977-78    85.1"
1992-93    83.9"

By the time the March 23-24, 2005 storm has departed, Boston's seasonal snowfall should rank at least 3rd and possibly even 2nd on the all-time list.

In addition, Boston's March snowfall has risen to 17th highest for the Month.

Code: Select all

Year   Snowfall
1993   38.9"
1916   33.0"
1956   31.2"
1967   22.9"
1960   22.3"
1906   21.9"
1892   20.3"
2001   19.2"
1984   19.0"
1970   18.2"
1996   16.8"
1939   16.5"
1978   16.1"
1994   14.8"
1959   14.6"
1896   14.5"
2005   14.0"

Following the current storm, March 2005 should rank among the 10 snowiest months of March on record.

Finally, with 43.3" of snow in January, January 2005 ranked as both the snowiest January and snowiest month on record for Boston.
