Ohio Snow storm

#1 Postby weatherfan » Wed Dec 22, 2004 10:06 pm

Focks this is the frist major snow storm in at least a few years for people who live out in Ohio and the mid west.As most of the action the last few years have been more foucs on the East coast and the Northeast.I think the problem is we have all for goton what a classest winter is like.I in fact a'm very glad that the Ohio and mid west regions are finally geting hit with a major snow storm. They have been geting missed out the last few years. And they derserve this more then us imo.I know us Middle Alantic and Northeast loves snow. But sometimes we have to look beowned our back yards and give other places there dues who are geting the good pattern right now.Because there are and is major weather happing beowed our back yards that is just as interesting and important. This in fact helps to make the over all winter forecasts look right on target over all like HM and Don.And even Dt As the ideal has been for the frist hafe to be more active and severe for the plains and the mid west into Ohio. And the seacond hafe to be much more active and severe for the East and Northeast. If we follow this pattern. Then before the winter is over everyone will get hit and there share before winter is over. This is a kind of winter where it not just the east coast.Everyone will be geting a turn this winter. The Mid west Ohio now.East coast Northeast Seacond hafe.So let just relax and just enjoy how it all forms over the winter.

While the east coast receives lots of attention for snowstorms, for once the Ohio Valley is in the spotlight. And believe you me, most folks would trade it with the east coast right now! The timing of this storm couldn't have come at the worst possible time - a few days before xmas. Schools, daycares, businesses, public offices, libraries, all shutting down early today. Not malls - heard they were all discussing what to do - closing would lose them last minute xmas shoppers - so they all stayed open! Crazy.

I watched a few minutes of TWC yesterday. Alexandria said of the then impending storm - viewers in New York are saying a foot, big deal! Implying some people didn't understand why this is a big deal for this region. So she brought in the winter wx expert (Paul Kocin?). He said the east coast can easily get 2+ feet of snowfall from one system. Because storms have the Atlantic Ocean to feed off of. So people up there are just used to it. Here in the midwest storms don't have a huge body of water to feed off of, so a 2+foot snowfall storm is almost unheard of. Hence, why this 12+ inch storm is a huge deal. He explained how rare it is to have a winter storm tap into the Gulf. So in other words, ignore us New Yorkers - let us have our day in the sun...wait, no sun. LOL

Sorry folks, but am chuckling with all the chat about the "big" storm in Ohio. Try living in the Northeast when it is not unusual to get those storms back-to-back. We're having a green Christmas and loving it! Had lots of rain and wind today. Big deal!

Merry Christmas!

With all due respect, Mayberry...I was born in Indiana and grew up in Ohio and myself and my Midwest Wxbuddies take offense with this post of your's and it's not at all appreciated...on the contrary it's NOT just a Northeast thing with big winter storms!

This really wasn't a back-to-back storm Mayberry. It was one storm that came in two pulses with a VERY brief break in between. 2-3' of snow in Indiana and Ohio is a very big deal, areas near Lake Michigan hardly ever see even that much lake effect. I'm sure you're still chuckling, but I heard this morning that over 20 people have died from this storm, and hundreds of cars are still stranded. Hopefully the Guard got them out - it's well below zero here this morning.

I agree 100 X 100 to the power of 100 100 times percent ... these areas are just not used to this type of weather so when it does happen things go down hill in a big hurry.

Eric, Andy, and Joshua - thank you all so much for your replies, to my once close friend Mayberry/Phyllis' reply. I was stunned at her lack of compassion yesterday when I read her comment. It is a big deal here in the Ohio Valley. 20 deaths is not a chuckling matter, not at all. Some areas received 3 inches of solid ice and these communites are without power at this very moment. People are staying in shelters, b/c they do not own kerosene heaters or stores ran out of them.

I want to apologize for her comment. I am the one that invited her to join Storm2K in the first place.

I would never dream of chuckling at her town's response to something we here in the Ohio Valley may take lightly. It's simply not a laughing matter.

:-(

True Joshua. Not sure if you're referring to her comment or my invite for her to join S2K!!!

But you're right about everyone is entitled to make a few mistakes. While she didn't show compassion for my area (and Indiana, KY and other states affected by this storm), I will extend it to her. Perhaps she was trying to be funny or saracastic. Still, I feel the need to apologize!

Mary,

You're totally innocent, Wxbuddy! Some peeps out there just have those kind of personalities...saying something but at the same time coming across in a totally other way to others.

((((HUGS))))

To one and all:

My apology to all. My post was not intended to offend. I would not take 20 deaths lightly. I meant it to be humorous. In the Northeast we sometimes get hammered with these storms. To those who have them infrequently, I'm sure it seems much worse.

Please be assured that I will not post again at the risk of offending anyone.

Happy Holidays and may you all find peace and joy in the New Year!

No need to apologize Miss Mary. Some people just come across like that.
