Snow in May for the Texas Panhandle today

#1 Postby Guest » Mon May 02, 2005 2:16 pm

Amarillo say 2-3 inches of snow today.... ya i know its hard to believe snow in texas in may. but thats not uncommon in the Texas panhandle. thats not unusual for them they see snow as early as october and as late as early may. every year it will snow there earlier and later in the year then it does in most of the midwest ohio valley and the northeast. they can thank the 3000 ft. of elevation for that though............... its gonna be chilly week for the southern plains dallas okc and tulsa will be in the 5os next couple of days with rain at least for early may that is.....

Amarillo's flurries just miss record

AMARILLO, Texas (The Dallas Morning News/AP) - It was late and it was a lot, but the early May snowstorm that left Amarillo with nearly 5 inches early Monday didn't set an area record for lateness: The latest: May 6-7, 1917, when the city got 9.1 inches.

Monday's fall: 4.7 inches at Rick Husband International Airport. It was the most for any May 2.

Rare: Such a late snowfall is "not impossible, but it is a rarity," said Roland Nunez of the National Weather Service.

But wait!: There's still a slim chance of a snow-season record, if it snows any more this month. The 2004-05 snow season began Nov. 2 – with 8.4 inches – and, if Monday was the end of the stretch, closed 182 days later. The record is 183 days, from Sept. 29, 1984, to March 30, 1985.

Forecast: High temperatures are expected to return to the 60s by today.

it may snow again but i dont know??... 15 day forecast on accu show 50s and 70s till may 20th after that i seriously doubt it. then again it could happen with 3500 ft. of elevation doubtful though. snow will just fall in the colorado mountains and montana and wyoming more then likely...... then again it is the Texas panhandle and theyve seen extremely early and late season snow falls............
