Ice Storm Warning remains in effect for the area.

Radars indicating increasing activity in two areas this morning one over heavily ice coated central TX and the other near CRP. SPC meso discussion has been issued for ice accumulation over central TX where accumulations are approaching or exceeding ½ of an inch. Power lines and trees are starting to come down along the I-35 corridor (see pictures below).

Since radar trends are increasing and models continue to bring ¼ to ¾ of an inch of rainfall across the area this afternoon into tonight and the ice storm warning remains in effect. Precip. may onset sooner given radar trends and this will have to be watched very closely over the next few hours. Current freezing line extends from near Splendora to Conroe to Cypress to Katy to Wharton…however dewpoints are very low (well in the 20’s) and once precip. begins wet bulb processes will bring temps quickly below freezing across a large part of the area. Also noting very heavy snow and sleet mixture west of San Antonio and Austin at current and will have to watch these trends as arctic dome deepens some today.

Freezing rain and sleet continue around the College Station and Brenham areas with numerous roads reporting icing and glazing. TXDOT has hundreds of crews out sanding roads and bridges at this time, but travel N and W of Waller and Montgomery counties is very hazardous.

Close watch on developing precip. area near Victoria is needed for the next few hours…as this may be the start of our winter weather event.

That's true of a good bit of the precipitation on the radar images. But as that precipitation falls and evaporates, it cools the lower atmosphere setting the stage for freezing/frozen precip late this aftenroon and tonight.

Winter weather advisory issued for Lafayette tonight through noon tomorrow. Even though we might not have any problems I think this is a good call by the NWS to cover their butts. Our official temp at the airport is 38 but the weatherbug station down the road is still showing 33.5 degrees and plenty of light rain spreading over the area.

Dang Porta, it looks like you might see some accumulating snow out of this later this afternoon and into tonight. That should give you better traction when you go to kick that football later on. :cheesy:

Looking out our front door, I can see that even if we were silly enough to want to go out, we wouldn't get far. Our street is a sheet of ice.

Trees look ok though.

We had a quick burst of snow for about 15 minutes and now it switched back over to sleet..... oh well, maybe it will switch back over later on this afternoon. Even if it doesn't it sure was neat to see some the white stuff. :D

I was just outside and it's a mix of snow and sleet here ... but it will pro'bly be all snow in a few minutes.

Our street isn't frozen after all - it's a slushy crunchy street. We might be able to get out, but I'm sure we'd hit ice at some point.

34.7 degrees and rain here in Lafayette. Dewpoint is currently 31. Can any mets chime in on what to expect in the I-10 corridor of south Louisiana? There's quite a bit more precip downstream from us too and a winter weather advisory that starts at 6pm.
