Saying Snow on the Gulfcoast is unlikely is always a safe bet, but the GFS has been consistent showing a winter event down here for the past couple of days. Soundings for the Mobile and Pensacola area showing a snow and ice event in a couple of days. I would pay close attention.

yes thats true, I have been paying attention. but according to birmingham those models have underestimated the strength and northward progression of gulf lows this year.

Everything will largely depend on two things for the immediate Gulf Coast. 1) The actual track and the strength of the Low itself.

I think we might see a brief change over all the way to the coast this time before it ends, we will see.

That is something I have noticed as well with the GFS. Good thing is this event is getting into the NAM range. I do think this will be a big event for someone in the deep south.

They did not say every time though. They get it right occasionally.

I agree, someone is gona get wacked with a good bit of snow. and I do think that on the back end of the precip there will be snow/sleet very close to the coast. who knows about accumulations though.

As far as the talk about winter precip. Don't see it happening in SE LA. As someone else mentioned the gulfs lows have had a tendency to track more northeast everytime. The one that passed last thursday was originally forecast to pass south of our coast but ended up moving right over top of us. Don't see any reason why this one will not come skirting by either. Just means we will get a cold rainy day.

Its ok though I will trade a saints superbowl win for snow any time any year. :D

So according to your map is it showing just cold rain here along the MS GC, no sleet or snow?

It all depends on the track and strength of the low. Hopefully, the low will track well south of the coast, a litter futher south than the models are forecasting. Also, the low needs to deepen a good bit and pull down that cold air. I'm not counting my chickens yet but this appears to be a good set up for snow to the coast......MGC

New Canadian shows a huge heavy snowstorm for the Gulfcoast! If this verifies it would be epic for the Gulfcoast

Euro is further north with a snowstorm for the entire southeast. Several inches of snow here while the GFS shows less than an inch.
