Winter might come back for a visit to Texas in about 12 days. Even if this does not pan out, this will probably be the last time we see a map like this one for a long time.

For your viewing pleasure.

I wouldn't be surprised if we get another shot of chilly/below normal temps before mid March. I can recall a few spring breaks that were "ruined" thanks to cold, damp weather.

Our freezing temps for the most part are done with. Time to start preping the yard for some spring color.

I hope you are right about done with the freezing temps. But I never say never, because I have seen freezing temperatures in Houston on March 20 before. Can't remember the year and I'm too lazy to do a search.

We had measurable snow here in Baton Rouge on March 18 and 19 in 1968. Temperatures stayed in the low to mid 30s for those two days.

True, very true. But the odds are alot less once we hit the second week of March. I do, however recall a few spring breaks with daytime temps in the 40's and the damp stuff. Likewise as a kid I can recall a few Easter mornings when it was quite cool outside. And some of those were in April.

yeah, I saw that too. Looks like winter wants to come back for yet another late-season blast. Let's hope that this is finally the last one though..

The weekend forecast continues to look even colder this morning. It now seems like we could see perhaps two freezes out of this...

Saturday: Partly cloudy, with a high near 62. East wind 5 to 10 mph becoming north between 15 and 20 mph. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 33. North wind between 5 and 10 mph.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 63. North wind between 5 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 31.

Also of note is the fact that it is looking windier and windier with each update for Saturday.

I sure hope I stay just above freezing. I put in 24 tomoatoe plants, 3 rows of bush beans (20 yards long) and two rows of new potatoes (20 yards long) and jalepeno plants this week!

Hey Johnny - the spuds will be just fine. Taters like it nice and cool. Did you work in a bit of potash with the tubers? It doesn't take much, and really gives some great results. I've found even tomatoes are hardier than you would think, and I've had no damage from a quick shot of freezing air as long as they're watered well. But to be safe, they and the peppers would probably benefit from a sheet the next couple of nights.

You're ahead of me - I'm just finishing the cold season crops: broccoli, cauliflour, and have 2 heads of cabbage left. For those of you who think you don't like cabbage - you've never had it fresh out of the garden. No stench, no indigestion, no er.... after effects that you get from the long-storage cabbage at the grocery. My neighbors are now threatening a midnight visit to take care of the rest. LOL! And homegrown potatoes? Whoo hooo! Ain't nuthin' like 'em!

Hey Jen, thanks for the pointers. I'm a big gardner and grow one every year. The beans are still seed and in the ground so they will be fine as are my potatoes. I'm really just worried about my tomatoes. It looks like the freeze will be very brief hopefully. I absolutely love steamed cabbage. Why don't you fed ex a head of cabbage to me and I'll let ya know if it's any good. :D
