Alert for you folks in North Texas ... latest HRRR runs developing some frozen precip tonight in an west-to-east line along I-20. Worth checking out.

Porta, are you seeing all this action and disturbances off the Mexican coast? Shortwaves galore, moisture and a fast-moving cold front visible on the rainbow plowing down south!!!! Should the PWC be on alert?

To be honest, the HRRR and the always-precip-happy NAM are the only models I see showing any kind of post fropa precip. All others are not showing anything as far as I can tell. I'm not all that optimistic about south central TX seeing any winter happiness this time around. But what the heck, it's worth watching today. You never know ...

Looking ahead toward Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, the overnight GFS suggests another shot of Arctic Air arrives Christmas Eve with well below normal temperatures possible Christmas Day. Notice in the image that the Jet Stream plunges into Texas with a very cold upper trough across the center of the Lower 48. While it is still too soon to know with any certainty exactly what our sensible weather may bring, typically when we see a diving jet stream and a neutral to almost negative tilted trough advancing across Texas, there is some potential for weather worries. We will continue to monitor throughout the coming week. Meanwhile prepare for the Arctic chill headed our way tonight. The latest guidance is suggesting the possibility of freezing temperatures to the Coast early Monday morning if the high clouds delay moving back overhead.

Well, Christmas Eve is just a week out so maybe this is something that can be consistent as we get into next week.

A little cold across the US wouldn't you say? -20s up north pretty impressive. -30s tomorrow morning up there. Even for northern Canada and Alaska that's cold no less the lower 48.

Hey Texas Snowman, I was wondering if the front has reached your area yet? Should be close.
Edit Ntwx just posted the map. Look at Amarillo and Lubbock. Huge difference and not that far apart.

1pm is the likely time for the airport. A little sooner north and west, a little later south and east give or take an hour.

At my house in Denison, not yet. At the North Texas Regional Airport five miles to my west, the wind has started to swing around to the west. It's on the doorstep!

12z GFS is chilly for Christmas Day in the 30s (40s further south). Has the big slow storm and some flurries for some. Definitely this storm system has been on the radar long enough to be of interest once we get past this arctic outbreak. GFS has been dry on it the past couple of runs being a positive tilt trough, but the usual caveats apply.
