Mathias wrote:I was wondering if Weatherbug has very accurate readings on the temperature, because they have my area as 38F while the NWS has a reading of 42F. Granted these two sources are at different locations, and the span of just a few miles could yield drastically different temperatures. I am inclined to, by default, yield to the reliability of the NWS source rather than Weatherbug, but I am just curious as to whether or not Weatherbug dispenses accurate data.

It entirely depends on the site and the equipment used. Many of them are setup at schools, TV Stations, etc. Some comply with NWS standards but many (probably most) Weatherbug sites do not. For example that 36 showing-up near the Galleria here - I question that reading. All readings from offical sites in this area range from 38F-40F and the closest official reading I can find at 36F is Bellville. So you have to wonder about anomulous sites - is it up on an office tower rooftop? Is it exactly 2M above the ground? Is it sheltered? (I've seen a Weatherbug site at a school in Dallas in the dumpster compound - surrounded by a 15-ft. brick wall).

Usually the ones at TV stations are accurate, but the rest you have to wonder.

THE BACK EDGE OF THE SNOW WAS ALONG A GAINESVILLE...JUSTIN...
CLEBURNE...WACO LINE AT 100 PM AND MOVING EAST AT 35 MPH. UP TO 1
INCH OF ACCUMULATION IS POSSIBLE NORTH OF I 20 BEFORE THE SNOW
ENDS WHILE TO THE SOUTH UP TO 1/2 INCH IS POSSIBLE.

A SECOND AREA OF SNOW WILL SPREAD INTO THE FAR NORTHWESTERN COUNTIES
THROUGH 3 PM. THIS SHOULD AFFECT AREAS NORTH OF A GRAHAM TO DECATUR
AND SHERMAN LINE WITH AN ADDITIONAL ONE OR TWO INCHES OF SNOW FALL
BEFORE IT ENDS AROUND 4PM.

double D ain't kidding about the winds . . . they are currently gusting to near 40 mph here in the Austin metro area. Air temps are in the upper 30s now to near 40. Partly cloudy skies, courtesy of the dry slot.

Everything is not white over here in Plano. Just looks wet, with a very light dusting of snow pellets.

Aw man, did the snow have to end now?

It has stopped snowing 15 minutes earlier, but I have a gut feeling more is heading this way.

As far as any major cancellations for Irving, TX: all Dallas County Community College schools are closed, and all Irving ISD sporting events are cancelled.

I wonder if anyone has a view on this. Any of the pros or amateurs? :)

snow is all but over for D/FW area, maybe a few flurries here and there leftover. Another heavy band of snow will effect the Red River Counties till around 5pm.

Maybe the trend will continue.

Still waiting on the front here. It's 82 degrees outside! We will likely experience a 40-45 degree temperature drop by tonight. Hard to imagine that it might not get out of the 40's tomorrow.

I don't have time to look at other things, but at first glance, it appears you may be right about some possibly significant moisture coming in from the SW. Possibly could provide us with enough moisture to squeeze something out, but I don't know. Part of the question is how deep is the cold and at what level is this moisture coming in? Also with it being Pacific in nature it might warm up the atmosphere some as it entrains, which would preclude any probable frozen precip. If a pro met could chime in on this I would appreciate it. good pick up CPD.

It looks like it to me. I've been watching it for the last couple of hours (click the thumbnails I've posted) and it continues to increase in intensity & coverage as it approaches from the west. Should be snowing in Weatherford by now.
-----------

It looks like we're all finished here in the Houston area. As expected, I haven't seen any reports of any wintry precip. around here. Everything should be bone dry before we hit freezing.
