Teens aren't impossible, but that isn't so rare. Happens every few years or so. Nothing close to the single digits and 5 days below freezing of 1983 or 1989. Better to get rid of that cold air in Canada quickly so that we can have a nice, warm January.

We have your jet for Australia fueled up and ready to go, sir. Time for you to pack your bags before it's too late.

If you want to see snow, may want to head out to the GOM Oil Platforms :D

Ahh yes, we’ve arrived at the timeframe before a potential winter weather event when a certain beloved heat miser starts telling everyone why it’s not going to happen. :D

Get your popcorn, the battle has begun!

FYI there is probably more but the only two official 1060mb+ readings I can find for the lower 48 is 1983's 1064m and 1962 1063mb. DFW hit single digits for both events.

It looks like '62 was overwritten by '83 b/c the 1060+ record area is relatively small.

Talk about underestimating low level cold, comical but not really surprised. This is midweek not late week.

Not a cold denier, but this isn't a multi-day sub-freezing event for Houston. Nothing remotely like 1983 or 1989. Just a hard freeze in Houston, most likely.

The 12z GFS run is closer to what we'll see, I think. I like Bernie's storm track but shifted south some. Could be a surprise for y'all in Texas.

GFS continues to weaken and force the +PNA ridge further west.

GFS Lost the cold air now. Just two very light freezes for Houston. I like it! However, it's probably wrong.

Storms dig at the base of troughs which often times is related to how far south the cold air is.

Still think the OP's are all over the place. 12z Canadian has teens for lows and then gets the state back into the 50's & even low 60's for Christmas Eve while the Euro had 20's & 30's for highs then. Lol. GFS definitely not like the Euro either. ICON just coming into range and so still a way to go before picking up any noticeable trends on that one.

Shockingly the Euro run overnight is the one you want if you like/want brutal cold (at least for now).

The 12z GFS has trended WAY colder for Christmas compared to 6z

For my area, it's 10s/20s vs 30s/40s as lows
