No luck! However, I did shoot a medium sized sow. We've been over run with pigs throughout the last couple of years so we try and eradicate as many as possible. It's crazy out here. Last year 4 of us took around 600 and it didn't really seem to make a dent. My blind was the only one that didn't see any deer. Typical luck! Ha!

Actually had a little burst of snow this morning in Grayson County. Even had a "dusting" that the wind blew to the side of the roads, the edge of parking lots, etc.

So a trace of snow this morning in Texomaland.

Euro is a big trough just before Christmas out west which is a lot stronger than it had at 0Z and cuts it up north slightly to our west. No hit this run but a different solution than its previous run. I do notice it brings up the low west of baja like the GFS. If that low does kick out, the subtropical jet will open up for QPF

Been outside and once you get acclimated to the cold, 25 feels balmy when the wind is low :D. 50s is going to be outright hot shorts weather later in the week.

EWX having to lower forecasted highs for Austin. We're barely going to break freezing with high now progged to be 33. Models underestimated CAA. I know, shocking, right?!

Here you go, a photo of this morning's snow gathered at the edge of a parking lot at our church.

Also, one of my friends in Pottsboro reported light snow at his house on and off for a couple of hours. With the steam and clouds he kept observing over Lake Texoma, he wondered if there might have even been a little lake effect snow this morning.

Oh nice little dusting there!

Just readjusted my weather station which is 23 ft up in my backyard, first time i had to adjust it for north again since March when we put it up that high.

42 is the projected high earlier today, luck we make it to 40. 38F right now at 1 pm.

Yes, we need venison chili at the PWC Christmas party this week!

Wild hogs are so out of control here in the Red River Valley. They had an aerial "control effort" at Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge last week. They took out a lot and I'm sure they barely made a dent in the population there. Yukon Cornelius, like your place in Clay County, our deer lease is overrun with them too. They do produce some pretty good BBQ (backstrap, hams, tenderloins, etc.) when they come off of the smoker.

Back to weather, I wonder if there is any winter weather correlation with the explosion in feral hog numbers? Like the more piglets you see in a herd, the worse the winter is going to be? Or the belly height of a herd's biggest boar is how much snow you're going to get for Christmas? Or if the pigs move towards the south horizon, Portastorm and the gang down in ATX are going to get some snow? :D

My buddy bagged a big hog in San Saba just yesterday! Not sure about the potential weather correlations though.

That darn SE ridge is killing us. We need MJO help, when it comes into our favor, all will be well. Just have to wait i guess.

I don't think the MJO will move much this winter. Nina standing wave features maritime forcing which is a signature of the southeast ridge. It is what La Nina's love to do thus the warm southern US/cold north climo. We sit inbetween the two Nina ridges (NP and SE). NP ridge flexes we get cold, SE ridge flexes we get warm. Its workable though since it is a weak Nina. A stronger Nina and its game over with a stronger SE ridge.

To squash the SE ridge what is needed is a -AO. But the AO is coupled with the NAO and that risk stuff sliding to the east. I would prefer to take out chances with a slight SE ridge.

For reelz!

At 1PM, every station in North Texas was under under 30. http://www.weather.gov/fwd/observations

Only spots above freezing are out in East Texas, Longview / Marshall at a balmy 34-35.

12Z (MOS) MAV and MET guidance suggest we freeze again tomorrow night at IAH with temperatures near 27F in the morning and again Tuesday morning.

MOS has been superior this outbreak compared to OP guidance dealing with shallow cold. Kind of odd since MOS tends to smooth out with climo
