Re: SE TX/SW LA winter wx: I can turn the ac off

#181 Postby vbhoutex » Tue Jan 27, 2009 10:54 pm

Radar to the W and NW of the SE TX area is starting to fill in significantly and continues to move SE towards us. Most of it is in the form or freezing rain or snow out past Austin and SA. I am not saying it is going to get icy here, but it will be interesting to watch how this all plays out overnight and into the morning. With the temperature already down to 39º here on the West side of Houston, one has to wonder how much wet bulbing will occur when the precipitation moves into our area overnight.

vbhoutex, it's down right drippy and cold on the NW side. I have had drizzle and light rain for well over an hour. "Unofficially" my temp is 38 and continues to fall. Not bad from a high near 80 at 3:00 PM. Oh, and the heat is back on again. :double:

Waiting on the front here in LA. Quite a warm "spring-like" day today. Haven't put the winter coat away just yet.

Still warm here too. It's 67 here with 93% humidity. The garage floor is slick with moisture. I also have junebugs in the garage.

Currently 35ºf here at the house with light rain. Radar continues to fill in to our West and now SW somewhat. A few spots between here and SA and Austin are now beginning to show as freezing rain on the radar. Not sure how much lower, if any, we will go with the temp. and dewpoint at 35º and 100% humidity. We may be as low as we are going. We will see by time to get up in the am. Could be touch and go for some of the closer in Northern and Western burbs of the Houston Metro area.

I'm in the middle of you both at 68 degrees and dropping quickly as the rains began at 12:37am with gusty winds. My A/C wasn't working properly today and it was 81 degrees inside my house. They finally got it fixed at 5:30..................just when it was nice enough to open the windows. LOL However, I don't think I'll be needing it for a few days.

What an awesome day today! Finally a reprieve from the cool, arid air. It's been doing a number on my chapped skin and lips! With the humidity and puffy cumulus clouds - it's almost like spring! Too bad it will only last for today - but it is Feb now so only one more month of the dreadful (imo) winter season.

Well, if we're not going to get any more snow, I'm ready for day and night shorts & flip-flops weather.

Wore the shorts today and should be able to for a few more days. OCM's giving us false hope for rain this week(I pray I am terribly wrong). Temps running 10ºf above normal with no real "relief" in sight.

It was quite chilly this morning. After many days (a few weeks?) of milder temps, the low 30's felt dang cold! (33 and 34 at Instaweather/Weatherbug stations to my west and east)

I think those colder temps are going to be a rarity for a while. Spring is nearly here!

We had 34ºf here at the house this morning. I call that cold!!!
It is definitely looking, acting and feeling like spring around here though. Trees are budding, etc.

Azaleas are in full bloom around here and my sinuses are really ticked about it. LOL

Was 36 here this morning but warmed up nicely. Praying that any more rains hold off until the construction workers finish up tomorrow and my garden rows are done.

48 degrees has never felt so cold as it did tonight as i sat through a 4 hour/48 minute baseball game. And to make it worse...we lost. It was a damp cold and even though i was bundled up that cold just seeped through your clothing and blankets.

I suspect the showers approaching SE Texas are frontal or post-frontal, and have little or no lightning.

But, we got storms over the Gulf without frontal forcing, so maybe things will get more active.

Cloud tops are colder offshore...

Any rain we get, is better than nothing...

The only rain we get here in Southern florida is from rain from Gatorade.

As dry as it has been all Winter, we'll be grateful for the tenth or so of rain that anemic line will produce, although I do hope it revs up a little as it gets into deeper moisture.

"Anemic" is right. We got MAYbe 1/4" yesterday, but I'll take as many drops as we can get at this point. Seems like the past few systems have produced the most rain offshore rather than onshore lately.
