It is 40 degrees and full daylight, yet my black asphalt driveway has some water on it from melting snow today (We topped out at 42 degrees this afternoon) that even in the 40-degree air, is already freezing over again!! This is happening on the part of the driveway in shadow, out of the sun. WOW.....I saw that happen last February near piles of snow on pavement in shade out of the sun in mid-February.
Hmmmm........stored cold in the pavement/ground, I suppose.....3 weeks of cold........

Cold air is tough as I described it would be, even immediate DC area holding with snow and sleet, eventual chage to rain but many more hours of snow/sleet and freezing rain than the overwheming majority of people were discussing.

Indeed it is happening as you said.
We have been experiencing freezing rain and sleet since 7pm Feb 5. temps are still at 28 degrees with steady freezing rain and occasional sleet. Some place to my NW are reporting snow mixing in with the liquified freezing precipitation. Ice accretion is about a quarter-inch right now and indications are that we will not change to plain rain until 8am, which is about 8 hours from now. The freezing rain has been steady. I now believe by the changeover to plain rain at 8am that we will have picked up three-quarters of an inch of ice or more.
Freezing rain at 28 degrees continues to fall and accumulate. High pressure is holding tough as Rocky in Russia fighting Drago in Rocky IV. The barometric pressure is steady at 30.41.
