Our morning low was 17F-a new record at the house for November. The lineup is complete-we have five months in our cool season here where the monthly mean temperature is below 60F and the average highs below 70F. They are November through March and until this morning November was the only one of the five where we had never gone below 20F. For the record, both October and April have brought freezing temperatures and even snow to Sierra Vista. We were below freezing for nearly 15 hours overnight. My trees also knew it was cold. The Mulberries which were in full color yesterday dropped all of their leaves overnight-which usually doesn't occur until the end of the first week in December. Now I need a warmup of sorts so that I can run the mulcher over the leaves on the lawn.

Wow, stay warm! :sled:

We got our own share of "cooler" weather, it's now 54 after it was 76 this AM.

Looking at upper 20's tonight here in central Scottsdale. Dipped to 33 last night.

Very dry, and very calm already this afternoon, so the bottom will begin falling at any time.

Yes :D The record low for Phoenix is +16F in January 1913 and the record low for Tucson is +6 during that same cold spell (Death Valley hit 15F at the same time). FHU hit +1F during that same event but it was undoubtedly below zero in the San Pedro Valley. Record Low in the Valley and surrounding areas is -6F in 1949 at both Canelo in eastern Santa Cruz County and near Benson along the river. But the record low for towns in Cochise County is -10F in Willcox in January 1962. In a normal Winter, we will hit teens a few times an once in a while the single digits will show up especially after one of our rare big valley snowstorms.

Wow Steve and Steve, that's COLD for down yonder!

Here comes the NEXT system, possibily just as cold and EVEN more moisture (x's his fingers!).

MORE SIGNIFICANT CHANGES ARE POSSIBLE BY LATER IN THE WEEKEND AND EARLY NEXT WEEK. MODELS INDICATE THAT LOW PRESSURE WILL FORM OVER THE SOUTHWEST U.S. OR OFF THE COAST OF CA BY SATURDAY MORNING. THIS SYSTEM TO EJECT OVER AZ SATURDAY INTO SUNDAY...AND WILL SERVE PRIMARILY TO MOISTEN THE AIRMASS FROM THE VERY DRY LEVELS WE ARE CURRENTLY AT. A MORE SIGNIFICANT SHORTWAVE DIVES DOWN THE COAST SUNDAY AND WILL ACT TO FURTHER MOISTEN THE AIRMASS. STRONGER DYNAMICS WITH THIS TROUGH WILL LEAD TO A SLIGHT CHANCE OF PRECIPITATION OVER THE FORECAST AREA PRIMARILY SUNDAY NIGHT AND INTO MONDAY. HOWEVER...PLENTY OF UNCERTAINTY WITH THE AMOUNT OF MOISTURE THAT WILL BE ASSOCIATED WITH THIS SYSTEM...SO POPS HAVE BEEN KEPT LOW AT THIS POINT. && .FGZ WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...NONE. && STAUDENMAIER

We're at 42 and dropping as of 9 pm. Coldest I have recorded here since arriving in 1997 was 27. Could be flirting with that if we don't kick up a gentle breeze off the mountains.

It warmed up over night thanks to some high clouds that moved in around 0100. The temp warmed from 14 to a current 18°...which is just FINE by me!

We had 19F this morning. The DP yesterday afternoon was -2F try getting some nighttime warmth from THAT airmass-no moisture at all to trap the outgoing IR. See where there's a Brown Sky alert for PHX (otherwise known as an Air Stagnation Advisory).

It appears that The Artic Express depot is OPENED for business FULL time! One system after another slated for this next week, one Sunday and possibly another Tues and Weds.!

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FLAGSTAFF 400 AM MST THU DEC 02 2004 .SYNOPSIS...EXPECT COLD TEMPERATURES TO CONTINUE THE NEXT FEW DAYS AS A COLD AND DRY AIRMASS REMAINS OVER THE REGION. EXCEPT FOR THE PASSAGE OF A FEW HIGH CLOUDS...SKIES WILL BE MOSTLY CLEAR FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE WEEK...WITH DRY CONDITIONS...AND BELOW NORMAL TEMPERATURES. ANOTHER WEATHER SYSTEM IS EXPECTED BY LATE IN THE WEEKEND...BRINGING THE CHANCE FOR MOUNTAIN SNOW AND VALLEY RAIN INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK. && .DISCUSSION...COOL TEMPERATURES WILL CONTINUE AS THE SOUTHWEST U.S. REMAINS UNDER A WEAK TROUGH PATTERN. LOW LEVEL INVERSIONS WILL ALSO PREVENT THE BOUNDARY LAYER FROM MIXING AND WARMING DURING THE DAY. CLOSED LOW OFF THE CALIFORNIA COAST ON SATURDAY...WILL BE EJECTED EAST LATE SATURDAY INTO SUNDAY BY A MUCH STRONGER UPSTREAM LOW. THE GFS NOW SHOWS THE FIRST LOW ADVECTING MOISTURE NORTHWARD INTO THE PATH OF THE SUNDAY STORM. WE WILL HAVE TO MONITOR THE INTERACTION OF THE SUBTROPICAL MOISTURE WITH THE SUNDAY/MONDAY STORM. IF THIS MOISTURE DOES GET PULLED INTO THE STORM THEN THERE MAY BE THE POSSIBILITY FOR A SNOW ADVISORY FOR PORTIONS OF THE EASTERN RIM AND WHITE MOUNTAINS. THE STRONGEST LIFT APPEARS OVER PORTIONS OF THE EASTERN RIM AND WHITE MOUNTAINS LATE SUNDAY INTO MONDAY MORNING. THE STORM MOVES EAST OF THE AREA BY MONDAY AFTERNOON. ANOTHER UPSTREAM WX SYSTEM IS DEPICTED BY THE GFS TO COME ACROSS THE AREA BY LATE TUESDAY INTO WEDNESDAY MORNING. TIMING IS UNCERTAIN WITH THIS SYSTEM. ECMWF SHOWS THE LOW TO BE MORE CLOSED OFF AND SLOWER MOVING. THE MRF IS MORE PROGRESSIVE WITH AND OPEN WAVE LOW, AND HAS THE TROUGH EAST OF THE AREA BY WEDNESDAY. FOR NOW WE HAVE PRECIP CHANCES FROM TUESDAY AFTERNOON IN THE NORTHWEST AND FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE AREA OVERNIGHT TUESDAY INTO WEDNESDAY MORNING.

The big problem for us down here is that the lower levels are so bone dry that none of the precipitation will make it down to the ground if the system moves through too fast.
