that is in the general area of the three main HPC lows, so I guess I will go with that area as being the "main" low pressure area right now. (The HPC is a tad further SE though. Don't know if that will have a large affect however).

That seems reasonable, EWG. If the low were as far south as TWC is indicating, there would be a lot more excitement...everywhere along the coast.

This set up reminds me of New Years Eve / Day when I was in Atlanta. Went to bed that night it was about 70, that night we had a good storm, and it got cold. by morning the wind and the cold had froze the waves on the puddles. The apartment my roommate and I were living in had a fireplace. He was from New York. I sent him to the store that morning since he had the only car around that would start. He came back with a car full of fire wood, and chips, and yeah beer... late that night the power went off, we moved to the living room and were warm. all the people we knew, and then some joined us for New Years Day.

If you look at where the area of lowest pressure is the Low is just about where it was forecasted to form. One of those is the main low with the others being short waves(is that proper terminology for this?) moving around the low and along the frontal boundary.

35 Degrees here in Cedar Hill, and the heavy rain is now mixed with either very small hail and/or sleet. And lightning too -- couple of nice loud bangs of thunder too. I assume road conditions are soon to go all bad within the next 1-3 hours.

Latest north Houston forecast looks even cooler than yesterday:

Today: Showers and thunderstorms likely. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a temperature falling to around 38 by 5pm. Windy, with a south wind 10 to 15 mph becoming northwest between 20 and 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Tonight: Clear, with a low around 31. North wind between 10 and 15 mph.

As for the front location at the moment...

Also, these two lows look interesting this morning (and the HPC agrees with their locations):

And here is the link to a more detailed TX radar (which is now showing some pink around Austin):

Yeah, at 6 am, we're at 37 degrees with rain. Temps still falling. Very windy, too! Nothing freezing yet though.

We also got some well needed rain with frontal passage ... over an inch!

It was just on the local news, sleet is being reported locally in the Austin area. It is funny, the local forecasters didn't even mention that this was going to happen yesterday. :D

lol.

Check out these hourly reports from La Grange (SE of Austin, west of Houston):

http://www.srh.noaa.gov/data/obhistory/K3T5.html

Is that "heavy snow" I see there at 6:27am???

I am wondering if some of these heavier precipitation pockets are bringing some snow to the surface.

**If this report is accurate, then it means it happened in a place that was not expected. That gives me a lot more hope here in north Houston.**

According to the DFW NWS, most of the sleet/snow will accumulate north of the metroplex, with the metro area having more freezing rain than sleet/snow. Just wonderful.

It's 34 here in Rockwall. We also had just over 1" of rain overnight. Lightning and thunder woke me up around 3am.

Crazy. Either it is a mistake or the temperature just above the surface (and all the way up) is below freezing, so the snow deoesn't have time to melt before it hits the ground. I've seen snow with an air temp at the surface in the mid-40s. Not often, but it happens.
