GFS drops the arctic hammer in fantasy land but it is fantasy land

I just hope if we get a repeat of last week's cold we get some wintry precip. Honestly I feel like it's a waste otherwise. I'm actually not despising this warmth entirely.

Overall the cold forecasts have been pretty good so far this winter when seen by guidance generally occured. None of the wintry precip predictions from guidance has come to fruition. So I'd hedge on the pattern producing cold eventually happening but less bullish on wintry precip unless within 3 days.

It's the life of La Nina which is pretty typical. It can get cold, warm between, and not as wet as El Nino years.

Some -60s showing up on the GFS at 252 hours in Montana and Canada. Consistent from last run with arctic hammer coming around day 10...
As for New Years weekend, it's rainy and seasonal

Winter storm at 300 hours followed by brutal cold. Highs in the teens January 6th and 7th, Lows below zero in Southern Oklahoma, around 10 at DFW January 7th.

That air and storm would make unbelievably happy. I'm working on making this happen with a MCV winter storm over wxman57s house.

The models continue to perform quite badly beyond 3-5 days. I've been watching the predictions for the end of this month, which isn't too far away, and they've been all over the place. The 00Z Euro dropped the big cold front and now has coldest temps of upper 30s with highs near 60 in the D-FW area in early January. Neither the 6Z GFS or 00Z GFS-Parallel run has any significant cold across Texas through Jan 10th, though I'd be hesitant to believe either run beyond about Thursday of this week.

Merry Christmas, everyone!

Merry Christmas to all Storm2kers!! Three things are needed for perfect Christmas weather:
Clouds.....check
Moisture......check
Cold air.......not so much. This is the most important one.
