Re: Texas Winter 2015-2016
That was unexpected. Even had some pretty good ice accumulations on the car windshields near the Addison airport.

Re: Texas Winter 2015-2016
Upper low is strengthening enough for rising thunderstorms throughout the column. Lots of pea sized hail reports coming in across the N Texas area.

pouring graupel here. I suppose this is the closest thing to a snowstorm this year.

To me it looked like hail. A lot heavier and sharper than sleet/graupel

I'm getting to see wxman57's side of things ... if it's not going to sleet or snow and this is all we get, bring on warmer temps and spring. Seriously. We haven't even had a good freeze here which we really need for many plants and fruit-bearing trees to renew for spring. And there are no signs in the models (operational or ensembles) that I can see of anything really changing much. I don't want to get into a climate change debate but since it's been 12 years since Austin has seen any measurable (1" or more) snow, I have to wonder if this is simply the new norm. Mild winters ... maybe a freezing drizzle episode here or there and that's it. Could be.
Not so fast! I don't want to hear any talk about winter being over, Portastorm! There will be plenty of winter to come in February (maybe).

I would like to see what people on the ground say to see if it is in fact snow in Greenville. I will check with my friend up there.
Update: No snow reported by my friend.

Re: Texas Winter 2015-2016
I'm seeing circulation in Kansas that the models either didn't predict or had it weakening before now. How would that affect the low in Texas? would it push it further South?

Re: Texas Winter 2015-2016
No snow reported anywhere across N Texas. FWD is doing a Special 18Z balloon launch shortly in support of the East Coast Nor'easter and is curious to see what that upper air data actually is.

It is a nice time locally to have special balloon launch. We rarely get much out of eventual Nor'Easters but maybe someone can get lucky later today. The closer to Texarkana the better the chance.
