Coast to coast cold, worst was 78-79. Famous ice storm in Dallas that nearly had my dad go Jack Torrance on all of us after being shut in with 7 kids for six days and no power.

What will be impressive also, lack of snow cover and possibly clouds from the shortwave disturbances other wise the lows would've likely been even lower.

...HARD FREEZE WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THURSDAY TO 9 AM CST
FRIDAY...

* WHAT...Temperatures as low as 5 degrees expected.

* WHERE...All of North and Central Texas.

* WHEN...From 6 PM Thursday to 9 AM CST Friday.

* IMPACTS...Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other
sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor
plumbing.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Temperatures will fall into the single
digits and low teens Thursday night.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

These very cold temperatures may cause uninsulated and exposed
pipes to freeze and burst. To prevent freezing of pipes, either
wrap exposed pipes or allow faucets to slowly drip. Ensure that
irrigation systems are turned off and winterized. Preparations
should be made now to protect any plants that are sensitive to
these extreme temperatures. Also remember to provide adequate
shelter or arrangements for outdoor pets.

One day of 11/25, but then a 19/32 that doesn't seem too unusual for the area. Wind might (or might not) keep us in Thu/Fri, big whoop. I probably won't print any "I survived..." t-shirts.

But scoot any reinforcing fronts around us. Give me the 50's next week and I'm good.

50s may come by late next week. Before then tomorrow and Friday will feature record territory wind chills all across the Plains. People are seeing the cold which itself is historic but disregarding the deadly side of this storm being the wind chills. Parts of North Texas will see 30 minute frostbite type temps and the Northern Plains will see 5 minute frostbite temps.

No doubt...plus steady North winds still blowing 10-15 mph. This one was going below 0F for DFW if it would've settled in over fresh snow cover like 2021

By midnight they might be sitting -15F or lower. That's almost 60F drop in 12 hours.

The NWS forecast is -25F by morning.

Tonight: Snow likely before 11pm. Patchy blowing snow between 9pm and 11pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around -25. Wind chill values between -40 and -50. Windy, with a north wind 25 to 30 mph decreasing to 15 to 20 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Are we impressed now :double:  :spam:

The cold front has arrived in Cheyenne and it is already a record-breaker! From 1:05 to 1:35, the temperature plunged from 43 to 3 degrees, a FOURTY-DEGREE drop in just 30 minutes! This shatters our previous 1-hour temp drop record of 37 degrees, and we are still dropping! #wywx

After the cobblestone ice incident years ago, TXDOT is overly sensitive to this.

Thursday A slight chance of sprinkles before 11am, then a slight chance of flurries and freezing drizzle between 11am and noon. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a temperature rising to near 43 by 8am, then falling to around 20 during the remainder of the day. Wind chill values between 2 and 12. Windy, with a south southwest wind 10 to 20 mph becoming north northwest 20 to 30 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph.

Latest NAM a little more aggressive with QPF across North Texas tomorrow morning…could cause some issues in the form of freezing drizzle. Something to watch closely

Denver, Limon, Goodland are all about to experience 30F+ drops quickly.

Yes, was looking at that, it would not be good for travel.

NAM has been on this threat, precip will form in low levels below 850mb so the well may not be able to form flakes despite the very cold air.

Let's hope DFW doesn't get what we got here today. Still below freezing right now with freezing drizzle and probably approaching hundreds of accidents now. Might get above freezing here briefly but the drizzle likely won't end so its all go8ng to freeze.

Yep, that’s what I’m afraid of, and with all the people that don’t pay attention to the risk end up causing accidents.

That’s the bad part, small drops of liquid vs snow flakes, could make for interesting times.
