Fair enough ... but here is how crazy I am about this one ... I'm so confident I'll be correct (i.e. the temperature in Austin tomorrow morning at 6 am will be BELOW 36 degrees) that if I am wrong, I will use this image as my avatar for two weeks!

What the? NOOOOO...you are just giving Wxman 57 ammunition...do not do this Porta....Do not go to the dark side....

I'm traveling to San Antonio this Sunday morning for my daughter's volleyball tournament. Will there be the potential for ice on 1-11-15 morning in SA? I might sleep in and catch the late games if there is a chance for ice.

Thanks.

A quick review of both the LCRA hydromet site and the Weather Underground site show 31 degrees as being the warmest reported in the metro area. Most stations are ranging between 27-29. It better jump fast (1 hour, 15 minutes) to hit 36 at 12 noon per the GFS.

:cold:
Just took a SHORT walk outside at work in this 20-degree weather. With the cloud deck and calm winds, it sure had the look and feel like it could snow at any second!

(Portastorm clears throat):

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AUSTIN/SAN ANTONIO TX
1100 AM CST THU JAN 8 2015

.UPDATE...
ADJUSTED THE TEMPERATURES AND DEW POINTS TO FIT OBSERVATIONAL
TRENDS. ALSO ADJUSTED HIGHS FOR TODAY SLIGHTLY BY BLENDING NAM/GFS MOS.

&&

.DISCUSSION...
TEMPERATURES ARE STILL VERY COLD AT THIS HOUR. WE ARE SITTING AT
29 DEGREES HERE AT THE WEATHER OFFICE. BECAUSE OF THIS WE ADJUSTED
THE HOURLY TEMPERATURE TRENDS AND HIGHS FOR TODAY.
THE REST OF THE
MORNING FORECAST IS ON TRACK. A FEW LIGHT ECHOS ARE SHOWING UP ON
THE EWX AND DFX RADARS. CURRENT DEW POINTS ARE IN THE SINGLE
DIGITS ACROSS SOUTH CENTRAL TEXAS. BECAUSE OF THIS THESE LIGHT
RADAR ECHOS ARE PROBABLY EVAPORATING AS THEY FALL AND SO ARE NOT
REACHING THE GROUND. MOSTLY CLOUDY...DRY...AND COLD IS THE
FORECAST FOR THE REST OF THURSDAY AHEAD OF THE COLD FRONT TOMORROW
AND WEEKEND PRECIPITATION.

26.5 with a dew point of 8 under cloudy skies here at Hudson Bend at 11am. Temp rise is averaging just over a degree per hour from the morning low of 21.5. I'm guessing we have about 4 hours or so of realistic warming from the sun left today. Winds have been light and variable all morning here. I'm waiting to see if they pick up from the south or southwest later, I suppose that could help with warming under the mostly cloudy sky.

The closest station to us on Weather Underground is showing 28. Ours has gone down to 30.

ETA: And now it's dropped to 29

Still freezing here in NW Harris County with a temperature of 32F. Morning Update from HGX...

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HOUSTON/GALVESTON TX
1043 AM CST THU JAN 8 2015

.UPDATE...
MORNING FORECAST UPDATE.

&&

.DISCUSSION...
MORNING LOWS WERE ABOUT AS EXPECTED WITH HARD FREEZE FROM COLLEGE
STATION OVER TO HUNTSVILLE. AREAS JUST TO THE SOUTH CAME UP SHORT
BUT STILL HIT MID/UPPER 20S. TEMPS DROPPED TO JUST BELOW FREEZING
ALONG THE COAST. TEMPS HAVE NOT REBOUNDED MUCH THIS MORNING WITH
16Z OBS STILL SHOWING 20S TO AROUND 30 NORTH OF HOUSTON AND MID
30S FOR HOUSTON AND COASTAL AREAS. COLD ADVECTION SHOULD KEEP
TEMPS FROM WARMING MUCH. CLOUD COVER OFF THE COAST AND TO THE WEST
LOOKS TO BE MOVING BACK INTO THE AREA BASED ON VIS SATELLITE
IMAGERY. OVERALL THINK TEMP TRENDS LOOK ON TRACK AND WILL NOT
ISSUE AN UPDATE THIS MORNING.

WE ARE STILL MULLING OVER NEW FORECAST DATA AND LOOKING AT
FREEZING RAIN POTENTIAL AREAS NORTH OF CONROE TO LIVINGSTON. IT
APPEARS THERE ARE STILL SEVERAL PARAMETERS THAT NEED TO COME
TOGETHER FOR FREEZING RAIN BUT A POTENTIAL NONETHELESS.

As you have been preaching all along..this will be really close....1 or 2 degrees will make a difference.

LA poster chiming in, still sitting at 29 here at 11:30am with a forecast high of 38. Don't see us getting much above 35-36. Looks like we have a decent shot of some sleet/freezing rain in the morning with QPF amounts right around .10". Would be nice to see this system come in wetter and give us a little surprise.

*sniffle* I'm giving up all hope of this system taking a more northerly turn, and doubt we will see anything over the weekend other than cold rain. *sniffle*

So now we wait to see when the Baja low starts ejecting?

What can we expect out of this front tomorrow? How will it compare to the last two we've had?

There is the next front. Rapid City, SD gusting to 50 MPH. A record of 1055mb was set yesterday in Nebraska. This Arctic High is just shy of that one.

Honestly I haven't had a chance to look yet. The 12Z runs should be in now for GFS/GFSP/CMC
