Re: Deep South Winterwx thread: January trouble
Ugh. Why is my area always just outside the realm of ice-ibility?

Re: Deep South Winterwx thread: January trouble
You can have all the ice you want in Gautier, just keep it away from Long Beach. Ice storms aren't much fun if you don't have power and can't do anything.

What can we expect 40 miles north of Atlanta? Thanks for any input.......

Re: Deep South Winterwx thread: January trouble
Good morning from BSL, MS. Praying that somehow this low jumps south and brings colder air in! It is currently 40 degress with a dewpoint of 23. hopefully the temps wont rise and the air stays dry enough to get some frozen precip this evening.

You are going to have all snow this evening through tonight into tomorrow morning according to the latest GFS & NAM models as the heights start rising in your area you may go to sleet/freezing rain during the day tomorrow, so be careful when traveling around tomorrow afternoon.

Good morning everyone. The winter storm has already created some major problems earlier this morning. Severe wx happened this morning along an intense squall line along. the extreme SE TX coast near Corpus Christi and Victoria. Reports of tornadoes in that area.
The wintry precip has already started mainly along the I-20 corridor from extreme NE TX across Northern LA through Central MS. Checking the surface obs, there are mostly sleet reports within the region, although there are some reports of snow now being coming in from Monroe, LA.
This is going to be ONE BIG MESS of a storm for so many today through Tuesday for the Deep South. For all of my fellow Storm2K posters who made road trips for this event PLEASE be cautious and safe because unfortunately there is goinng to be some serious icing concerns in many areas. This is the absolute worst scenario and I tell you with no hesitation PLEASE STAY OFF THE ROAD if it is icing even if it is a light glaze. It is just not worth it folks to risk your life or others! Don't venture out there in dangerous unless if it is necessarily important to do so.
Ivanhater and others who are out there who road tripped it and just those of you living in the affected areas, please keep us informed which I trust you alll will!

Thanks NDG for that latest update. Lots of freezing rain and sleet reports for now. I worry that this storm unfortunately has a well established warm nose which is really going to create a major ice storm for so many iin the next 24-48 hours.

Re: Deep South Winterwx thread: January trouble
I think I am just going to stay put. It would be dumb and try to travel back to Pensacola tonight. Never been in an ice storm, but I know up to a half inch is dangerous. I am hoping for a miracle and it will mostly be snow, unfortunately, this looks like an extremely dangerous ice storm.

Good choice in staying put if you are going to stay there tonight. You may start with some mix of snow/sleet but may go to all sleet/freezing rain during the night and towards sunrise. But with surface temps expected not to go much above freezing tomorrow I am not sure if it will be safe to travel after precip ends early tomorrow morning.

A very wise decision Ivan! Also, I agree with NDG about the icing problem possibly lingering into Tuesday morning there in Central AL. I don't expect temperatures to warm much above freezing there at all. Ivan, you may catch a break when temps may warm into the mid-upper 30s by noon time on Tuesday, which hopefully would allowq enough melting for it to be safe enough to travel. Be safe up there!

Good decision, and I agree. I'm hoping it's snow too, but I'm an hour north of Auburn and while they have me getting an inch or two of snow this evening we then get major ice even after midnight and tomorrow. I am very concerned about the ice for sure.
