My annual post for us DFW folks and for everyone who is interested. The January 1985 winter storm forecasted by Troy Dungan. One of the best growing up, along with Harold Taft, David Finfrock, and Brad Barton.
The report starts several minutes in but worth a watch.

KP-Index and the HP30 are showing a resurgence. Seems like another chance to see aurora tonight?

Snow in Texas? What’s that?

Don't use my posts as forecast; I'm not a certified meteorologist! I just endorse cold weather, alright?

All observations I note are for Temple, Texas unless otherwise stated.

Well I partially expected a complete 180 of this system waking up this morning.

I did notice my weather app has gone up in temps for the weekend.

Still lots of time for Lucy.......

GFS definitely got snowier here a nod to the always snowier Euro

In fact they are almost in agreement on snow totals shocked face

The GFS appears to have more snow into DFW on the clown map anyway

GFS is showing an apocalyptic amount of sleet followed by a half foot of snow for DFW.

Nasty as that might be (travel would really be impossible), it would still be better than the crippling ice storm on the EURO.

It's currently centering the Red River counties for a snowfall bullseye.

Congrats to NC and Central Texas. This looks big. YUGE, even. Models continue to trend warmer temps and less precip in SETX. I still suspect there will be some light freezing rain N of downtown Houston and some of bridges where surface streets cross the many small creeks will become trouble spot.

4 days out, always possible the trends for almost entirely cold rain for Houston area to change. 6Z GFS has trended a smidge back towards the coast getting enough freezing rain to make roads dangerous here and even down the Coastal Bend,

The 6Z GFS even got more aggressive with the storm.

Just for entertainment purposes, TWC app now has 5-8” of snow for Dallas Saturday, and 1-3” more Saturday night.

You think models are coming in a little warm? The freeze line sits for hours NW of me on the Euro

First off, mesos do much better on hour by hour temps. Second, none of those frames show the freezing rain moving in. Your area has always forecasted for late evening and overnight for the freezing rain into Sunday morning.

I still think the cold air comes in faster and colder than what’s shown for SETX. My guess is people outside the concrete jungle of HOU, especially north and west get to freezing before sundown Saturday. HOU metro after sunset.
