I'm off Blackwell which is about 4 miles NW of Town Center. Back to a cold rain again w/ a flake or two, but for a while earlier it was fun to look at.

You're probably 20 minutes away from me. I'd be thrilled just to see a brief snow shower.

But...seems I'm always in the Cold Winter Rain zone. ;)

Enjoy your snow....even if it's only brief. It's a treat. :D

Canton, GA? I'm VERY skeptical. WSB-TV out of Atlanta had someone in Pickens County NORTH of there with no snow and it was raining and 38 degrees.

:?:

It's not going to change back... we're way too warm.

This weekend looks extremely cold. I don't know if there will be any moisture around, but if there is, we're good to go. I REALLY REALLY like the setup.

Nice to see that optimism ... you were sounding more pessimistic last week! I hope all of us in the Southland get a nice winter weather event or two ... that keeps us home from work for a day or so, how's that?!

I'm not even going to think about *now anymore.

Atlanta has a shot at it again Weds nite/Thursday, and then again Saturday--but I'm just figuring it'll be instant replays of today.

No thanks.

I agree. Not changing back. Too warm.

As for the alleged 2inches in Canton, not buying either. That's just 30-40 minutes north of me....and its way too warm for any kind of accumulation.

I'm always pessimistic when it's over a week out because I've seen it too many times and it never happen, plus the fact that this cold snap has been delayed several times.

I'm much more reluctant to jump on the snow bandwagon though. We've had perfect setups before and ended up with nothing more than non-events due to a lack of moisture. I will say that the Mid-Week storm look like a LIGHT event if at all with most likely no accumulation. Alberta Clippers just do not give us much snow.

***IF*** we get a Gulf low this weekend(or at any point as long as we remain cold) we're going to be in a lot better shape, but that's very uncertain right now.

im so tired of cold rains, it had to happen a good 5 or 6 times last winter, and 3 this winter....i love looking at the thermometer and seeing 33.1 or my personal favorite 32.9 which it seems to always bottom out at during a cold rain event. Maybe the tide will turn for us here in the SE before this winter is over.

39.0 with light snow to our west now. 34 seems to be the majic number for the transition. Temp not falling nearly as fast lately.

I'm definitely over the cold winter rain too, but I'm not holding my breath to see snow this winter. Just more cold winter rain in the cards for us in Atlanta.

Let's not get depressed yet... I think periods of flurries and light snow are likely on Saturday. No accumulation though.

Yes...possibly a stray flurry or two...but can't help but notice the heaviest precip is below the freeze line...right over us.

In other words, Heavy Cold winter rain for the most part.

Nothing to get too excited about.

Perhaps all is not lost for us in snow-starved, cold-winter rain soaked GA.

Guess we'll just have to wait and see how things play out.

Atlantans: Put your pj's on inside out and backwards tonight--and don't forget to do a snow dance. It just might please the snow gods and bring us a slight accumulation here--instead of cold winter rain. :D

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PEACHTREE CITY GA
337 PM EST FRI FEB 10 2006

.SHORT TERM...(TONIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT)
NEXT WEATHER SYSTEM CONTINUES TO DEVELOP AS EXPECTED WITH LATEST SURFACE ANALYSIS SHOWING A SURFACE LOW DEEPENING OVER SE TEXAS. THIS LOW WILL BEGIN TO KICK EASTWARD THIS EVENING AND ACROSS THE DEEP SOUTH OVERNIGHT. EXPECT AREAS OF RAIN TO BEGIN SPREADING INTO THE WESTERN PORTIONS OF GEORGIA BY EARLY-MID EVENING...THEN SPREADING ACROSS THE REST OF GEORGIA TOWARD MIDNIGHT OR SHORTLY AFTER. MAIN CONCERN IS POSSIBLE MIX OF WINTRY PRECIP (RAIN/SLEET/SNOW) ACROSS NORTH GEORGIA LATE TONIGHT AS SURFACE TEMPS DIP INTO THE MID 30S WITH 850MB TEMPS DIPPING TO AROUND -2 DEGREES BY 6-7 AM SATURDAY MORNING. THESE TEMPS WOULD SUPPORT BRIEF ACCUMULATIONS OF 1-3 INCHES OF PRIMARILY SNOW ACROSS ELEVATED SURFACES IN THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS. IF VERIFIES...THE SLEET AND/OR SNOW WOULD RESULT IN SLICK SPOTS ON AREA BRIDGES ACROSS NORTH GEORGIA TOWARD MORNING. THEREFORE...HAVE ISSUED A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR AREAS GENERALLY ALONG AND NORTH OF A LINE FROM SUMMERVILLE...TO DAWSONVILLE...TO CLEVELAND...WITH THE MAIN THREAT IN THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF 1500 FEET OR HIGHER. THE RAIN WILL TAPPER OFF FROM WEST TO EAST THRU SATURDAY MORNING WITH ONLY PATCHES OF LIGHT RAIN DURING THE AFTERNOON. THEN WRAP AROUND MOISTURE ON THE BACKSIDE OF DEPARTING LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM BEGINS TO ADVECT IN ACROSS THE NORTHERN HALF OF GA SATURDAY EVENING. THIS COUPLED WITH STRONG COLD AIR ADVECTION WILL BRING A CHANCE OF SNOW TO THE NORTHERN HALF OF GA SATURDAY NIGHT...TO INCLUDE THE ATLANTA METRO AREA. ALTHO THE AVAILABLE MOISTURE IS STILL LIMITED... A LIGHT ACCUMULATION IS POSSIBLE AS TEMPS FALL WELL BELOW FREEZING SATURDAY EVENING. WITH THIS IN MIND...THERE WILL ALSO BE A THREAT OF BLACK ICE SATURDAY EVENING/NIGHT AS WET SPOTS ON ROADS BEGIN TO FREEZE. THIS COUPLED WITH THE THREAT OF LIGHT SNOW ACCUMULATIONS LATER SATURDAY NIGHT WOULD SUGGEST ANOTHER WINTER ADVISORY MAY BE REQUIRED FOR AT LEAST NORTH GA SATURDAY NIGHT. HOWEVER...WILL FOCUS ON THREAT TONIGHT FOR NOW...AND LET THE MIDNIGHT SHIFT FINE TUNE SATURDAY NIGHTS THREAT WITH LATER COMPUTER MODEL RUNS. ANOTHER STRONG UPPER SHORTWAVE AND SHOT OF WRAP AROUND MOISTURE COULD RESULT IN SOME VERY LIGHT SNOW FLURRIES AGAIN SUNDAY NIGHT OVER EXTREME NORTH GA...BUT NO SIGNIFICANT ACCUMULATIONS ARE EXPECTED WITH VERY LIMITED MOISTURE.
