Question: During tropic season, it seems people pay more attention to the 0z and 12z runs as opposed to the 06z and 18z runs. Does the same hold true in the winter?

We're getting quite a bit of snow/sleet up here on "the hill" the streets are now covered, collecting nicely on the grass and the cars/roofs are covered.

Precip is turning more into snow now. Had some thunder and lightning.

Coming down nicely here in Corinth. Streets are now taking. Cars make tracks but not long after they drive over it's covered back up. Very heavy snow now. :froze:

It seems to be a powder snow more then a wet snow this time around.

THUNDERSNOW in Heath. Maybe 1/4 to 1/2 accumulated, I haven't been out yet.

Boy, if we had more moisture to work with, this would be a big deal. There's plenty of lift passing overhead.

It's the same. 12z and 0z get upper air data ingested so they see the changes in the atmosphere. 18z/6z are basically reruns of the same data forwarded.

My drive to class was interesting. Main roads are wet and fine but every overpass/bridge was iced over with sleet/snow.

Happy for you guys up north ... sounds like an awesome morning in North Texas! Enjoy, take pictures, and share them with those of us who are enjoying our non-freezing drizzle this morning. :(

Freakin kid in a candy store over here! Light accumulations in the parking lot with tire tracks running through. Grass and roofs are white. Probably ~.5 inches and still snowing. About to hit the roads. Will update when I get to work in a few hours lol

Estimated 1/2 to 3/4 inch of snow here in North Dallas! It is no longer coming down here (confirmed by the radar), but wow that was quite a surprise while it lasted.

Does anyone know of a site that shows the new dual pol radar images or is that only available to Mets? Understand they can now see sleet vs snow flying debris etc. would love to check that out but havent found a site with live dual pol only educational info.

National Weather Service has very nice training modules for dual polarization: http://www.wdtb.noaa.gov/courses/dualpo ... index.html . The Fort Worth radar is a upgraded radar (it is sending out dual polarization data). if you have/or can obtain a radar app (like Radarscope) on your Android/iPhone smartphone, then likely, you can view dual polarization data. GrLevel3 (30 day free trial if you want to try it out) is PC software that can display dual polarization data as well. Weathertap (http://www.weathertap.com) can display dual pol products as well. Unfortunately, these sources require you to pay(eventually) for access, as I know of no free source for dual polarization data, yet.

Edit: To correct typo

From Texoma Weather's Facebook page: "Not to overshadow the event today, but we are still monitoring the potential for wintry precipitation Thursday across northern Texas, southeastern Oklahoma, northern Louisiana, and Arkansas. There are still some questions with this system and the majority of our guidance is showing a dry system, but seeing how poorly the models have been performing we believe there's a chance for wintry precip."

Snow is starting to end in Grayson County. About a 1/2 inch here in Denison. But I've heard they have two inches in Aubrey (near Denton).
