The 00z SPC FRAM highlighted the risk very far south. It will be interesting to see what the 12z shows.

I was thinking this ice threat would shift off to the north and disappear leaving DFW with a cold rain. Now it appears to be getting stronger. Monday morning would be a disaster if this verifies.

Yeah, the 12z SPC FRAM is rather aggressive. Luckily, any ice accumulation should be short lived as temps warm up Monday morning.

There is still some ice and snow in the shade here so yeah maybe.... It has been a super cold stretch. February is gonna be very hard to top this even if it does get cold only 3 nights above freezing and this is our 6th day with a sub freezing high

Might cause some power outages if loathsome freezing rain accumulates high up in the trees causing branches to fall. Freezing rain is the most vile form of precipitation. Portland had a lot of trouble with it recently.

The NWS in Norman OK has just issued an update on freezing rain. Counties just south of the Red River and northward, the FREEZING rain will begin at 6:00 pm Sunday night and won’t end until noon on Monday. It will slowly spread south.

I’m fine with brutal cold as long as I don’t have to work in it. Being a major weather enthusiast like myself, I get crazy excited for any sort of extreme event but I will say, heatwaves are my least favorite.

Once winds shift to the south, it will warm up dramatically and any chance of ice will be limited imo. We went Wednesday morning from -4 to 33 during the day. That's a big turn around. I'm ready for a warm up but hoping we have a few chances sometime in February or early March!!

17 degrees here in jackson tn. Pretty cold still. Low tonight of 7 degrees, which should be our last cold blast for a while

Now looking at it from a relative perspective, mild being near normal with periods of below normal. In fact with the rainy, milder week, next weekend looks a cooler stormy period. January for many in the state is pretty much booked to be below normal. There's just no impending cold waves in the immediate future, alongside the unfavorable MJO.

Around mid-February is the time we should see effects from the recent SSW (should we be the chosen ones) as well as more favorable MJO setup then. Ensembles shows anomalous cooling in S-Central Canada and Northern US, thus I see it as hinting towards a cold wave for that period, as it stands.

I have kids excused for yearbook Monday so a cancellation would be a problem. I hope the forecast doesn’t get icier. If it does, I will take the day off as long as Tuesday is fine, which it should be due to the rapid warming. Unless it’s 30 or below, roads should be fine even in the morning.

Tulsa's low is only 30... That's pretty marginal for big impacts certainly

18z models adjust the surface warmer, which seems more realistic, and that pushed the icing threat almost out of the DFW area.
