Wow, do you have the link for that jax? I don't think I have ever seen a free map of the Euro precip output!

That certainly does show a big snow event for the Deep South next week!

But, yes, that is a very impressive winter storm EURO is showing next week should it come to fruition.

Can anyone guess totals on the Euro and the extent of the snow? Is Baton Rouge in on it this time around?

It just sent me to imageshack. I recognize the picture, it is from the ECMWF main site but I can't locate it.

Well, I don't know about all of you, but I will gladly take all rain for this event if it means a big snow event in a week! Ice is no fun, anyway! Who else wants to make a deal with Mother Nature? lol Maybe we can get a group rate. 1/2" of ice we will trade for 6 inches of all snow!

They are REALLY not handling the temps well today.

South Louisiana was supposed to get in the low-mid 40's.

1:45pm and south La sits in the 30-34 range

I'd love to see a precip map for the Euro next week as well. Wonder if we can get in on the snow game along the I-10 corridor. Temp still showed 31 degrees just a little while ago on my vehicle...a little concerned about icing tomorrow.

NWS Mobile/Pensacola may be issuing a winter wx watch later today

HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK...UPDTED
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MOBILE AL
1255 PM CST WED FEB 2 2011

THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR PORTIONS OF INTERIOR SOUTHEAST
MISSISSIPPI...SOUTHWEST AND SOUTH CENTRAL ALABAMA...THE WESTERN
FLORIDA PANHANDLE...AND THE ADJACENT GULF COASTAL WATERS OF ALABAMA
AND NORTHWEST FLORIDA.

.DAY ONE....TODAY AND TONIGHT.

A DEVELOPING AREA OF LOW PRESSURE OVER THE FAR SOUTHERN GULF OF
MEXICO WILL MOVE NORTHWARD THROUGH TONIGHT. THIS WILL RESULT IN
CONTINUED CLOUD COVER THROUGH TONIGHT...WITH THE CLOUD DECK
GRADUALLY LOWERING OVER THE REGION. A SHALLOW LAYER OF VERY COLD AIR
WILL CONTINUE TO FILTER INTO THE REGION THROUGH TONIGHT...WITH
OVERNIGHT MINIMUM TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 20S AND LOWER 30S ACROSS
MOST OF THE INTERIOR. THERE WILL BE A SLIGHT CHANCE OF PRECIPITATION
OVERNIGHT TONIGHT...SO WITH THE COLD SURFACE TEMPERATURES IN
PLACE...THERE WILL BE A RESULTANT SLIGHT POSSIBILITY OF FREEZING
RAIN OVER INLAND AREAS. INITIALLY...THE LOWER LEVELS OF THE
ATMOSPHERE APPEAR TO BE TOO DRY FOR MUCH...IF ANY...OF THE
PRECIPITATION TO REACH THE GROUND. BUT...IF THE PRECIPITATION LASTS
LONG ENOUGH OR COMES DOWN HARD ENOUGH...THERE COULD BE SOME LIGHT
ACCUMULATIONS OF ICE LATE TONIGHT...WITH A FEW SLICK SPOTS ON
BRIDGES AND OVERPASSES. THERE IS STILL SOME UNCERTAINTY WITH REGARD
TO WHETHER ANY FREEZING RAIN WILL OCCUR TONIGHT...BUT LATEST
OBSERVATIONAL AND MODEL TRENDS ARE POINTING TOWARD AN INCREASED
LIKLIHOOD OF THIS OCCURRING.
METEOROLOGISTS AT THE NATIONAL WEATHER
SERVICE ARE CONTINUING TO MONITOR THE SITUATION...AND IF CONFIDENCE
CONTINUES TO INCREASE...SOME WINTER WEATHER PRODUCTS MAY BE ISSUED
FOR PORTIONS OF THE FORECAST AREA LATE TONIGHT INTO EARLY THURSDAY.
STAY TUNED.

A STRONG OFFSHORE FLOW OVER THE MARINE AREA MAINTAIN HAZARDOUS
CONDITIONS FOR SMALL CRAFT THROUGH TONIGHT. SMALL CRAFT ADVISORIES
REMAIN IN EFFECT THROUGH TONIGHT.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY.

SOME LIGHT ACCUMULATIONS OF FREEZING RAIN...MOSTLY ON BRIDGES AND
OVERPASSES...WILL CONTINUE TO BE POSSIBLE WELL INLAND THURSDAY
MORNING. PRECIPITATION WILL BE MORE WIDESPREAD ON THURSDAY AND
CONTINUE THROUGH MUCH OF THE DAY...AND AS SUCH...TEMPERATURES WILL
STRUGGLE TO CLIMB MUCH ABOVE FREEZING OVER THE INTERIOR. AS A
RESULT...FREEZING RAIN WILL REMAIN A POSSIBILITY THROUGH MOST OF THE
DAY.

A MODERATE TO STRONG OFFSHORE FLOW...GIVING WAY TO HAZARDOUS
CONDITIONS FOR SMALL CRAFT...WILL PERSIST OVER THE MARINE AREA
THROUGH EARLY SATURDAY.

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...

AT THIS TIME ACTIVATION OF SPOTTER INFORMATION IS NOT ANTICIPATED
THROUGH MONDAY.

Its still a week or so out BigB0882. But, it is an encouraging sign that both the GFS and EURO in their long range both have deep moisture hanging well behind the arctic air mass coming southward next week. That indicates to me that the southern branch of the jet stream looks to remain active into next week, thus the chance of seeing a potential winter system impacting TX and the Deep South next week.

Just have to watch how the model runs handle the details for the next several days and see how this will unfold.

I feel a little better that it is only 7-8 days out and not the crazy 10-12 days out. I am sure it will come and go in the models but we shall see!

Earlier today weather.com listed BTR as having ice for only a 3-4 hour time from overnight and into the morning. Now they have changed that with the 3-4 hour of ice, then slightly above freezing for a few hours then 6-8 hours more of icing overnight thur into fri morning. Trended temps down 2 degrees or so and it made all the difference.
