Friday doesn't get above 32 at DFW. Colder than last night.

Houston in the mid to upper 30s Friday with a freeze Friday morning at IAH.

The cold air will beat the GFS. I am betting on it. 850s are almost Superbowl week cold. I'm sorry i just don't believe 1050+ hp is ~31F for a low

Bring it on. The only thing that would make it better would be a little snow and sleet to Austin just in time for the PWC Christmas card photo. The one where Porta kicks the literal stuffing out of Lucy's football.

BTW, I like the references to 1983 and 1989 earlier today. I know that's probably not reality, but just referencing two of the most memorable winter events that have happened in my lifetime is still exciting.

I've learned a lot about the weather over the years. But probably the most important thing I learned is that you should never, ever, ever poke the bike riding bear. He can make sure bet cold weather, wintry precip events vanish by simply turning up the atmospheric thermostat. I'll bet he's scheming right now, maybe using some of his Cajun gris-gris to make it warmer.

Where has the resident heat miser been hiding out? Probably running for the equator.

It will only qualify as a bonafide outbreak until KAUS reports freezing drizzle

You're probably right. And I thought about that before posting my fun. But he's given those of us on this TX Winter Weather thread so many lumps over the years, it's hard not to poke the bike riding bear at least once or twice a winter. At least when there's at least one model run that looks promising. :D

Some years, that's all we get around here - a few model runs!

Ntxw wrote:Why are we putting stock into a model (gFS) that is cold one run, less cold the next, then cold, then less cold again? Thats not good consistency.

If even with a glancing blow, 1045+ hp and a cold source region isnt going to be a low of 31F. I understand skepticism because of last winter but this is not last winter, it is this winter.

The GFS is the most unreliable of the main models when more than 3 days out, always has been.

Near the end of the euro run Nw Canada is even colder than the air mass coming. Lurking Pinwheeling ridge near Alaska.

Any hints of moisture with the next runs ( after this one)?

It's amazing that the Aleutian Low can be our worst enemy or best friend.

Little late the the met knowledge party but ive recently noticed that when those Ridges get closed off, they stick around MUCH longer than your 'open' contour ridge
