It's high latitude blocking I think. All your cold air is funneled to the states while Canada doesn't really do much under that ridge, that is if the models are correct.

Better watch out Ntxw!! Forecasts like that get SS excited!! :cheesy: :cheesy:

:grrr: Will the wolves and polar bears from hell be knocking on Ntxw's door???

Oh this is exciting!!!! :grrr:

(for those that wonder :grrr: is the closest I can use for an evil grin)

hmmmmmmm preferably without knocking on MY door first!!!!!

Oh, but it's a dry heat. Like that's supposed to make it more bearable. It feels great to walk out into a hair dryer and just about get a heat stroke walking to the car. :)

Don't care what kind of heat it is.....I know dry heat too (in the low 100's) and I don't want it either!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mid 70's would be heaven on Earth.......you know the temps you folks just had not that long ago but instead of enjoying them you were praying to the DARK COLD LORD for his memorable presence. :double:

Of course he just had to fall in love with my location :crying:

Portastorm wrote:Well to be honest, the 12z GFS isn't nearly as sexy as the 6z run was. But nonetheless it shows a pattern change around 10 days out with colder air pouring south into Texas (colder than the near zonal flow we'll see in the next week) and an active southern stream.

The ingredients look to be in place the second week of February and we at the PWC will be working hard to keep nudging Earth away from ol' Sol and bring on some wintry "fun" for everyone in Texas! 8-)

I definitely believe the 12Z GFS, as it has all the snow (beyond 10 days out) well north into northern OK/KS and none down in the Dallas or Hill Country areas.

Snow in Kansas and Oklahoma?! Clearly it has to be wrong, haven't you heard the new snow belt this year is along I-30. They're begging for it up north

Once you live through 70+ days of 100-110 heat, you learn to appreciate the cold (unless it's wxman57 of course!). Forced to stay indoors day after day because the air quality is miserable or risk a heat stroke, also not a fun ordeal to have, with those $500+ electric bills for four straight months is misery!

Ya I know you folks still want it  and we will still send it (at least the peeps here will stay at home when it does make it down there).

I hope you do get a nice snowfall and enjoy it in your backyards (and stay off the roadways :double: down there).

Here's an update on the MJO, the wave is picking up convection and a little momentum nearing phase 8. GWO (though not the same thing) is moving into phase 1 and has nearly completed it's cycle indicating blocks could set up.

:uarrow: blowing hard with the last bit of cold we have left here.

You fellows either need a break from here or else a holiday in say Manitoba/Northern Ontario, or the Maritime provinces.

For all your sakes I really, really, really hope it makes it there!

Portastorm wrote:Ladies and gentlemen, I bring you a snow depth map from the 6z GFS for Feb. 13th. The Grey Goose-swilling mets from the PWC were up all night long to bring you some vodka cold from the Land of Saskatchewan Screamer mixed with some precipitation. Ntxw and his Metroplex friends will be able to build igloos with this event!

View, enjoy, talk amongst yourselves. And did someone say winter was over?! Heh.

Before this image was removed, the greatest reason it was utter garbage was that it showed literally nothing for us in southern Ontario...the snow belt regions included (we already had inches of snow hours after)...but yet a foot+ in parts of the south??? Yeah, I'll believe it :break: .

Actually our best snow patterns is when you guys in E Canada is warm  aka high latitude block. It forces the cold and storms to go south while you guys take in milder Atlantic air. Like what happened much of the winter in 09-10 and 10-11. Not good for bitter cold, but best for snow

IMPORTANT -- Please Read

There have been some heightened emotions around this thread lately regarding the state of the weather. For those of you who are disappointed in the lack of much of a winter, you know I share your pain. For those of you who are thrilled by a lack of winter, I'm happy that you're happy. There are a lot of posts that some of us make which are merely in jest. As you may have noticed, wxman57 and I have a rolling dialogue on hot vs. cold. Many times we exaggerate our comments or amplify them for the sake of humor, especially during times like now when the actual weather is boring. This is a winter weather thread and there isn't much winter weather going on in Texas, right? So, some of us like to spice things up to keep YOUR interest in this thread through our own attempts at humor. For those of you who like winter weather, please don't think that wxman57 wants you to be personally miserable. He has even said in fact that he would be as excited as the next person if an actual snow event hit his town. I don't think he would be too happy if it was cold for two consecutive weeks following that event ... but the actual event would thrill him from a personal and professional standpoint. He has pretty much said that before here. My point here is folks shouldn't take our posts too seriously unless we're talking about actual model runs or actual data or actual information. Please, don't take it personal!!

I have had the privilege of meeting wxman57 and I can tell you that he's a great guy. Like you and me, he loves weather. That is why he is a meteorologist and spends his free time on this forum. And you should also know that he is an outstanding tropical forecaster who is sought after nationally through his company. He knows what he is talking about. Most of the rest of us only know varying degrees of what we're talking about. Truth be told, we are really lucky that he talks weather with us and does his best to educate when he can.

So I would simply ask for everyone to take a deep breath before you post anything which you are writing after reading something which has made you angry or annoyed. Much of what you read here is good-natured ribbing and well intended comments. You shouldn't take anything personal because it is not intended to be taken personal. OK?

He is a good sport. With all the humor we shouldn't forget he doesn't control the weather, he is just pointing out what he sees as realistic from a professional standpoint even if it's not what we like. Keep up the good work wxman57 and thanks for putting up with us in your free time!

Oh yeah, he knows I am ribbing him. He ribs me right back...LOL. I did think Dark Lord of Summer was a cute nickname. :)
