I think NWS-Norman is overestimating the warm nose

Easily with two more rounds of models 18z and 0z.
Also will predict 400+ by end of Feb, which has loaded potential.

I’m just happy I don’t have to see what 7” of sleet can do to my house, yard and streets.

But the way this thread has been melting down the past couple of days, thought I’d go on the conservative side…

No doubt. But can we make a run at 500+?
And all of that after the annual “Winter Cancel” calls only a short while ago!

I also was counting on the models underestimating the cold
For reference, I was 3-4 degrees colder than forecasted even this morning, expected low was 25/26, actual low was 22.

Re: Texas Winter 2025-2026
I just have this gut feeling that models will shift some to the south, and we'll start seeing those precip types and amounts start to change with lower amounts of freezing rain and a increase of sleet and snow totals across NTX. What warm nose there will be weak and erode quickly which for everyone is the best case scenario. I'm also thinking that temps will not moderate as quickly headed into Tuesday, and next week remains below average temperature wise.

At this point I’d be very appreciative of a huge dry slot for the 210.
You need the rain! Take what you can get.

Houstonians couldn’t handle it being any worse. I wanted a couple different ingredients for a weekend meal and thought I’d hit HEB. Nope. Literally not 1 parking space and people waiting everywhere. Insanity. Never seen it that bad even holidays and hurricanes.

But seriously why the hell are people buying up toilet paper? Are they going to use it to keep drafts out?

So i agree. Partially. I agree in a sense of how can a 1052 HP in the US not produce below freezing temps to the Gulf Coast. At the same time, the winds are shunting things to the east and i believe alot of the cold will go with it.
This is the disconnect between the upper flow and surface. Back in 2023 every model (global) led by the Euro was pretty good with the upper flow but struggled with lower level cold, myself, txtwister, and orangeblood had to go against the world because the Euro was mild only to see one of the worse freezing rain icing events in ATX and SAT. If you have a trough that digs into the southwest it allows the cold to bleed. This splitting of the upper flow it has to pick one or the other and often times it is the model that picks the broader cold trough northeast vs the western flank.
You're very right. Maybe they downplay this effect in the southern plains. One thing I learned in Feb '21 and being here in Denver is how troughs "pull down" the cold air. Its a very real thing and can be significant. Here in Denver, one snow setup is a strong ULL passing through NM. It pulls down air from Canada, which brings down a cold front and leads to upslope flow here in Denver. You gotta love the weather. It's so fascinating.

That one I don't get either. I get bread for sandwiches, I guess. But....do you go to the bathroom more just because you are home?

Even in Kansas marginal setups often produce snow easily because the elevation is much higher.
Same in West TX. That's partly why we struggle more with precip types in East/N Texas.
