Re: Texas Winter 2014-2015
ISSUED 258 AM CST SAT JAN 31 2015/
AS I WRITE THIS AN AREA OF VIRGA SITS OVER WESTERN COUNTIES
MOVING NORTHEAST AT 25 MPH. AN OCCASIONAL RAIN DROP MAY MAKE IT
TO THE SURFACE...BUT THE 00Z SOUNDING SHOWED VERY DRY AIR BETWEEN
750 AND 950 MB. IT WILL TAKE A BIT OF PRECIP TO MOISTEN THIS
LAYER. AS A RESULT...ALTHOUGH PRECIP ONSET TIMING HAS CHANGED
LITTLE...I HAVE DECREASED QPF SINCE A GOOD PORTION OF OUR
EXPECTED RAIN WILL EVAPORATE AS IT MOISTENS THIS LAYER. MANY
AREAS WILL NOW STRUGGLE TO GET A QUARTER INCH OUT OF THIS
SYSTEM...WITH A BIT MORE THAN A THIRD OF AN INCH POSSIBLE IN THE
NORTHWEST AND NORTHERN COUNTIES.
THE PRECIP SHOULD ALSO SHUT OFF FASTER SUNDAY AS THE ACCOMPANYING
COLD FRONT DRIES OUT THE LOWER LEVELS. BETTER PRECIP CHANCES ARE
NOW CONFINED TO THE SOUTHEASTERN HALF OF NORTH/CENTRAL TX AFTER
NOON.

That said my dog's coat sure seems to think winter is over. Fur is coming out in clumps beginning last week. -_-
My dog's coat is acting the same way. May as well just vacuum her coat.

My sweet olive tree is also starting to sprout.

NWS says the Austin area will have three bouts of rain between now and Tuesday evening. Love it!

Work with me here, brother. I'm just trying to find a "silver lining."

Not so fast
Maybe one of these decades the GFS will actually get a storm 12 days out right *sigh*

The old saying around here was that you checked your pecan trees - they will not start to bud until winter is over.

I won't buy anything until I see cold air in place in western Canada and its heading due south.

See any snow up in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area yet today (as per the models 7-10 days ago)? Sunny and 70s in Houston. Heading out on my bike.

That's alright ... eventually we will get our winter weather and when we do ... we will be merciless on Heat Miser! Of course it may be NEXT winter before that happens.

Re: Texas Winter 2014-2015
It's not looking good for snow across NE or SE TX this year. GFS has nothing through the 18th. The pattern isn't changing. Massive low in the Gulf of Alaska has found a home there and isn't moving. It continues to pump relatively warm Pacific air into western Canada.

Meanwhile, it was 77 degrees across Houston yesterday. My wife & I had a great ride. Stopped in Hermann Park to see the new area that just opened. I took a panorama with my iPhone and captured Peggy (twice) and one ghost.

No talk of last night's temperature bust? The Sunday morning forecast pegged lows around 30...I'm sitting here at 8:00 am at 25, with a low of 24 about an hour ago. I am going to lose a few plants that I keep inside during the winter, but had moved out on Saturday to get some ran and some daylight. GRRRR!!!

I see that rodent named Phil in Pennsylvania saw his shadow. 6 more weeks of Winter. I do wonder if that groundhog knows the difference between lighting from the media cameras and the actual sun though...
That said it is a bit chilly out there today and we may see some frost tomorrow morning across our Northern Zones of SE Texas if the clouds do not move in too quickly this evening from the SW as that pesky upper low over Mexico finally shears out and heads East.

Satellite indicates not one square inch of sunshine across Pennsylvania this morning, and snowing in most areas. Perhaps in seeing his shadow he's saying we'll have 6 more weeks of weather like yesterday across Texas before the nice, warm spring and summer?

Fell to 24 at my place last night. Models are offering no hope of winter returning anytime soon. looks like if we are going to have any winter weather this winter it will have to come after Valentines Day.

I hope so. I finally was able to do some pre Spring yard work yesterday. It was great to be outside in a t shirt for a change. Last weeks weather can continue as far as I am concerned. It will be pool time before you know it!
