Amazing! That is a 35-degree temperature drop!
wind-chills are also now 25F in the city. This means that is felt like a 47-degree drop!

from what I have heard, there were some reports of sleet over in parts of Austin earlier though.Portastorm wrote:The situation in the Austin area is starting to go downhill as of 8:20 am ... temps still dropping. Its at or below freezing pretty much from the northern areas of the city up north and west ... scattered light showers are around the area as well.
The roads are fine right now, of course. No big deal. But should we get some heavier precip later this morning, things might get interesting quickly.
I guess the vertical column of cold air isn't as deep as expected though as all of our precip -- even currently -- appears to be liquid and not frozen.
Portastorm wrote:Well aggiecutter, like I posted earlier ... should we get some heavier precip later this morning, we could be in trouble considering how the temps continue to fall. Right now, the heavy rain we received overnight ... ground moisture ... is being sapped up pretty good by the gusty NW winds.
I'm curious how the air column profile is setting up over us.
Of course, we could get dry slotted by this upper low and get little of anything. Jeff mentioned that dry slot yesterday.
