San Antonio fell from 72F to 37F in just 2 hours!!!

http://www.srh.noaa.gov/data/obhistory/KSAT.html

Amazing! That is a 35-degree temperature drop!

wind-chills are also now 25F in the city. This means that is felt like a 47-degree drop!

yeah, it probably is. It was probably a small pocket of freezing air that developed above the area and allowed snow to briefly fall into the temperatures in the 40s.

There have been some weather closings in the DFW area.

Public Schools:

Bryson ISD: Closed.

Forestburg ISD: Closed.

Garner ISD: Opening at 10:00 AM.

Gordon ISD: Closed.

Sivells Bend ISD: Closed.

Slidell ISD: Closed.

Go to wfaa.com/closings for a complete list.

Some light freezing rain fell in Irving, but it's not enough to ice over the roads and cause some delays so far. Still, better safe than sorry. Earlier today, Dallas ISD said they were gonna close but an hour later they said, "Sorry kids, but you gotta come to school."

some areas west of Houston have recieved over an inch of rain.

http://radar.weather.gov/radar.php?rid= ... 11&loop=no

It is these heavier rain pockets that are probably the most likely to see the brief bursts of snow or sleet mixed with the rain.

the cold front just came in! Temperature fell rapidly (within a minute I think it fell over 10F) and the winds picked up amazingly! As it first came in gusts had to have topped 40mph with leaves and debris filling the air. This is a crazy front for sure. One of the most extreme temperature changes in a long time (in such a short period of time).

Here in Allen (Northeast in the DFW Metroplex) the schools are open. I think it is because today is a TAKS Test practice test for the elementary schools. I wouldn't doubt it if they would stay open just for that. They are just so fanatical about those tests.

Anywho, we had a few rounds of severe thunderstorms last night and early this morning and of course there has been a huge temperature drop. It was sleeting lightly about an hour ago, but that seems to have stopped now. We will see what later this morning and afternoon brings us. I would love to see some flurries from this. Our puppy is not liking it too much so far. She took one step out the back door this morning and turned around and went back in! :D

winds are still gusting well over 30mph out there. This deserves a wind advisory IMO (because they are sustained for periods too at high speeds). Debris, twigs, leaves, etc. are flying everywhere and trees are in full bend at times.

wow! I just checked weatherbug and Brenham ISD is down to 33F! It is that kind of cold air that will be moving our way. I now think we could be into the lower 30s by this afternoon.

The situation in the Austin area is starting to go downhill as of 8:20 am ... temps still dropping. Its at or below freezing pretty much from the northern areas of the city up north and west ... scattered light showers are around the area as well.

The roads are fine right now, of course. No big deal. But should we get some heavier precip later this morning, things might get interesting quickly.

I guess the vertical column of cold air isn't as deep as expected though as all of our precip -- even currently -- appears to be liquid and not frozen.

from what I have heard, there were some reports of sleet over in parts of Austin earlier though.

In Texarkana, the front came through about 3 hours ago, but the low over NE Texas has held the front up temporarily and temps have actually risen a couple degrees the past hour, from 49-52. In spite of that, there is a Winter Weather Advisory for this area from 3pm to midnight. I don't really expect much. Probably just an inch or so of snow and sleet, but that is better than nothing. Ironically, it looks like the Austin area could receive some of the worst weather from this storm as they could have significant ice accumulations on trees and power lines.

It would be nice to get the cold front that Texas is experiencing to come Florida's way.

Well aggiecutter, like I posted earlier ... should we get some heavier precip later this morning, we could be in trouble considering how the temps continue to fall. Right now, the heavy rain we received overnight ... ground moisture ... is being sapped up pretty good by the gusty NW winds.

I'm curious how the air column profile is setting up over us.

Of course, we could get dry slotted by this upper low and get little of anything. Jeff mentioned that dry slot yesterday.

The San Angelo NWS mentioned that too. We should see rapid clearing sometime afternoon. So our chance of winter precip better hurry up

Btw, I keep looking out west at that snow band and I wonder if that will make it towards Central Texas or fall apart before reaching us.
