Let's hope the system Sunday and Monday holds up at least.

Why would you hope for something that will most likely end up with someone being severely injured or killed in an accident not to mention the power lines that come down with a major ice event causing thousands of people to be without power in possible single digit temperatures. That's all before the damage to homes from broken water lines. Hope for a nice big snow event not major ice.

It's not really a bust. The key here is that temps were going to run colder than guidance a risk if icing was possible. If it was a little warmer it would be freezing rain which was concern but for North Texas it's colder so sleetish/grains which isn't ice storm criteria unless you get oodles of it. It's not a lot of qpf to play with any way and could have been a surprise event.

ICON is coming in a little faster (amped) thus snow starts earlier in parts of Texas (perhaps bigger run here?).

Not sure about everywhere else, but we have a fairly heavy drizzle that has coated exposed surfaces and the street is fairly wet and starting to become slick. It doesn't take much to become treacherous. Hoping that no one ends up losing power from this before the real stuff moves in this weekend.

Here’s the 10:1 Snowfall forecast, expect a little higher ratios than that

Tyler 36F
Gilmer 35F
Mount Pleasant 35F
Longview 40F

I'm actually almost halfway between Longview Regional Airport and Gilmer so I'm probably at 38F at my house. I don't think I'm going to make it to 32F, but the other towns I listed above probably will.

Another decent shower moving in. No lightning so far.

We go through this discussion with every major weather event, be it extreme heat, flooding, tornadoes, hurricanes, ice, snow, etc.

Someone is likely to die. Property is likely to be damaged. People will probably suffer.

But that's just life and some weather weenie who is in awe of mother nature isn't going to change a damn thing by wishing for the weather to be worse. We have no control of it. We're just interested in watching crazy weather events.

You might be in a sweet spot for some ice tonight... If the models are to be believed.

ICON is such an insane run for cold and snow, like you just don't want to believe it. Literally only 1978 can do that kind of snow.

Yep, looks that way, all depends where the bands set up. Temps won't be super cold but they will soon drop below freezing. Not loving the idea of kids stuck at home tomorrow, 4 day weekend then school canceled by multiple snow events next week.

Not a fan of how the Icon run shifted heaviest snow totals north. Still a long way out to be focused on how much at any given spot but hope it’s not a trend.
