Re: Texas Winter 2010-2011
BTW, Goodland KS 10F, NAM thinks it is 25F there.
NAM thinks it is 32F AMA, 27F there.
15F off in Goodland KS, 10-15F off in Denver.
So temp are running about 5 to 15 degrees lower than model concenses, that's going to effect precip types sooner than later.

The cold air is coming with vengeance. I am still shocked at these crazy numbers the MOS data is spitting for highs and lows...Ecmwf highs Weds DFW = Upper teens low 20s.

Yeah, thats what I'm trying to figure out too. Southern Kansas perhaps. Dodge City has gusty winds. This push is really surging south. The pressure rises up north towards the Canadian border are huge. 30.70s just across the border 30.60s just south.

…An Extended Period of Very Cold Temperatures Expected throughout the Week…
Big changes in the weather will take place over the next 24 hours as some of the coldest air in many years plunges south into Texas. I urge everyone to take advantage of today’s mild temperatures to make preparations for an extended period of cold weather that will feature hard freezes and bitterly cold temperatures across the entire region.
Forecasters continue to monitor the progress of a strong arctic cold front that has moved out of Canada and is now located across northern Wyoming and central South Dakota. This front is expected to reach The Hill Country and Central Texas regions around or just before daybreak Tuesday morning and the coastal plains region mid to late morning Tuesday. But before the big front moves through, we have some other weather to deal with. Today, a weak cold front has sagged south into Central Texas. Readings behind the front are in the 50s. But this front should move back north as a warm front this afternoon, allowing for a return of mild air. Today’s temperature will generally reach the low 70s under a mostly cloudy sky.
. . .
Bob
Is that for North Texas, where it is currently below 50 degrees
The meteorologist is Bob Rose who is the main meteorologist for the Lower Colorado River Authority. Their service area extends from the northern Hill Country down to the middle Texas coast.

Thanks. There's an eyewitness observation from PTPatrick on the conditions in Denver on the "Southern Plains" thread. He basically said it's colder sooner, and started snowing sooner than forecasted. That jives with what you saying here.

I'm watching a Weatherbug location in Rolla, KS which is just on the border with OK. It's currently 21 but the much colder air is just to it's north.

I know Bob. He was at A&M at the same time I was there (1977-1980).
Euro does look even colder for us next week (no precip).
I want my boring mild, sunny, dry La Nina winter back, Ivanhater!

Finally living basically in Tarrant county pays off again. Recent storms have been mean to people west of 35. We finally get our storm.

What about Denton County? Denton City? I can't get the NWS site to open for us. I need to make preperations around the office for possible power outages and so forth.

yep
21 in Salina too but 7 in Grand Island, NE
I guess the 20's in KS are just part of the older cold air and aren't moving much - just thought it was real close if it had made it to Liberal (350 miles to go to DFW) - guess it's still a little further out.

Once the leading edge of the "main push" of arctic air enters Oklahoma, the OK mesonet will be a good source to use to watch as the airmass progresses southward toward the Red River.
Here is the link to the OK mesonet homepage: http://www.mesonet.org/index.php
Also, here are a few good links to individual sections of the webpage:

I'm sure if Tarrant county gets under one Denton county would too.
