12z Euro has the Storm coming in Sunday Night & into Monday . . .

(Question: Does anyone here have Pivotal Weather Plus or the Kuchera Ratio on the Euro model? Extremely useful for snowfall without misreading on 10:1 Ratio)

Well, one of my students has a family friend in the hospital from the wreck. Thankfully no surgery. Very lucky.

Also, we have added 40 pages to this thread in just a few days. Geez.

So, every time the temperature gets in the low 20's for about 2 days our pipes ALWAYS freeze (along with the neighborhood). We have pex tubing in the attic. I'm a little concerned with temperatures dropping in the single digits or WORSE.

So the question is, if I simply leave the water running (not full blast, but much more than a drip), will that keep the pipes from freezing?

First, not a stupid question. Is the whole house affected or just specific faucets? In our case, the water supply to our island kitchen sink has frozen. I was stumped until I went into a house being built that is the same as ours and realized the pex is run in the attic, then down an exterior wall to the slab where it connects to plumbing to the sink. I figure it was freezing in the exterior wall so now when the temps get low like this, we leave the cabinets open.

Unfortunately, when it freezes it is the entire home that freezes. That is why I'm wondering if we simply just run the water if it will keep it from freezing.

Not sure at what temperature this happens but ever seen photos of frozen waterfalls?

Through the early week storm the Euro shows 12-15" Kuchera for Central OK. It shows 8-12" for Northwest Texas, 3-6" for West Texas, 2-4" for Central Texas, 4-6" for North Texas, 3-5" for East Texas and 2-4" away from the coast in Southeast Texas.

11FEB2021 12Z GFS - looks like a heat wave next weekend.

Looks like today's high temp is a bust - we're at 27, may make it to 30.

Euro is also doing a CMC. Perpetually snows forever (hyperbole).

Some lightning in the freezing rain band south of Tyler. Watching it closely as it nudges ever so slowly north. The WAA was extended by SHV until 6 for Smith and Cherokee Counties to account for this band and the stubborn temps.

DFW is going on day 2 below freezing (was last above freezing Tuesday early afternoon 33F with a high that day of 34 for a couple of hours). One more shot tomorrow but if that doesn't make it then we can thaw out by next Friday.

Broken record, temperature bust after temperature bust....the snowfall maps give a general clue on amounts but considering their track record on temps, snowfall maps are probably underdone. A shift south with snow axis seems reasonable!

Kuchera maps are exciting but it's not always the best either. However temps will be very cold so it can happen, we are more used to snow ratios while 30-33F and not stuff below that. Take the middle ground to be safe!

My home station is still sitting at 27. I highly doubt we reach the forecasted 30, though it probably will come close. But, I bet only 29 today, which is colder than yesterday and will allow for tonight to get even colder if we have any CAA. For not being the main shot, this initial wave of cold is pretty darn impressive by itself for Texas honestly.

Just updated my profile. I know my location can get confusing because I got to college at OU in Norman but I post for Frisco when I’m home. :cheesy: sorry if that’s resulted in any confusion.

Yeah, the Ratios are between 15:1 & 20:1 when the storms come in, 25-50% lower snowfall level for the 10:1 Ratio, that is exactly why I trust the Kuchera Ratio when the temperatures are likely to be below 25°F with a major storm coming . . .

Not going to work yay!! They are shutting down.

I know everyone is looking at what's coming over the weekend into next week but we currently have an ongoing situation down here. I'm gonna take some pictures but first gonna look for a new upload service.

Yep it definitely looks better. More snow and less ice is definitely a good thing!
