Yep..just saw that...areas in Mobile Metro have sleet/snow forecast now...

Dionne, where is Crystal Springs, exactly? Is it between Hattiesburg and Jackson?

So I went to be last night and the winter weather advisories have made it pretty close to the coast of NC but do you guys think it is going to keep creeping toward the coast? Is the cold air coming in faster than expected?

Montgomery NWS says in their short term forecast that snow amounts will only now be about an inch near Birmingham and 1-3 inches near Montgomery with the heaviest snow setting up south of Montgomery. This is due to the low pressure in the Gulf moving south of their forecasted positions - so areas between the gulf coast and central AL/GA may see a heavy snow event. Needless to say, that would be quite rare if this occurs.

I suspect the rapid southward drop of the snow line over night had a lot to do with she shear deepness of the convection in the hattiesburg area...it looks and sounds like from the mobile and jackson discussions that some areas may change back over to rain, before ending again as flurries... Having said that...at this point if you follow the nam...anywere from Biloxi to Pensacola could possibly see the precip end as flurries late this afternoon...but I wouldnt bet on any accumulation south of a line from Wiggins to citronelle to brewton. Like I said...if areas south of there see anything frozen it seems more on the order of light sleet or flurries.

We've had heavy snow in Equality, Ala., (southeast tip of Coosa County) since 8:20 a.m. HUGE flakes! Beautiful snow to watch fall!

I love watching those dinner plate snow flakes so characteristic of southern snows. Here in Denver we often get heavy snow and big flakes...but I have yet to see flakes as big as some southern snowflakes. Our air is typically so cold and dry our snow is generally more powdery except in October and March and April.
