Up from 27.9 to 28.6 IMBY. The forecaster on the local news said 28 is the magic number for all roads to become icy, even side roads. Still dry here. No drizzle or moisture falling atm.

For those keeping track, this is the 3rd winter in a row (just missed being the 3rd Feb) that a large chunk of Texas has been put under a Winter Storm Warning.

It may happen again in February.

Radar scope is starting to blow up just west of Fort Worth back to Abilene. Seems a little ahead of schedule

Yea, either this s/w is stronger than the hi-res models were showing or it's moving in faster.

I much prefer yesterday's upper 70s to today's upper 40s. Enjoy your freezing rain up north. Front just barely made it to the coast. Cold air is about 100 ft thick here in Houston. I'm hoping it will modify-out soon.

There a quite a bit a “twitting” on Twitter about this Ice Storm, especially in the DFW. Lots of people are upset because school districts didn’t move fast enough to cancel school.

The watches and warnings only went up yesterday and last night. I doubt many of the officials at the districts were in a sense of urgency to plan this out on a Sunday afternoon. Then this morning it's the eyeball test, not much falling yet. That's the debate of lead times for this kind of event, timing and message is key. I understand waiting for better agreement/confidence but that's the debate we've been having the past several days. Hopefully not too much happens until everyone is home.

Both the CMS and RGEM have cut back QPF across DFW over the next 48 hrs when temps will be coldest. Kind of backing off the major sleet/ice storm of the 00z runs and trending toward the American models.

Radar is a good bit more juiced up that way than what the hi-res models were showing.

Sometimes the website maps are deceiving. Little dots of qpf but really it's convective. This afternoon between 20z and 0z convective activity will occur up and down I-35. Reflectivity composites paints a more realistic view.

Any amount of frz rain and/or sleet is enought to shutdown DFW for a few days, and still .25" or more is all it will take to create major impacts.
