Nice coldness, but not even a dusting here in Marshall, Texas (I-20 East TX). I think I see some snow or dust blowing in the sky, but that's it. Looks like we'll be too far north for snow this Friday too.

Last I heard, he was heading up onto his roof to look for snow flurries. He's probably frozen solid by now.

Switch your radar to composite & turn winter mode on.

Thanks, which radar do you use?

HPC QPF for Friday gives Houston to College Station .25 inch. That's a lot more than I expected them to forecast! Even Austin and San Antonio are in the .01 inch. :D

18Z NAM coming in much more wet...and moist. RH levels at 700MB are much higher and NAM now showing snow over SE TX and LA by Thursday afternoon. Predicted radar really lighting up on the coast by 48 hrs...and by 00Z Friday (Thursday evening)...NAM showing 1" snow depths already. This is a huge change.

Do you keep asking the same thing over & over? It is too soon for any warnings. This event is not yet a given as to timing, location, & intensity.

if the models trend like the 18z NAM there might be some hope for our southeastern counties.

Much of the moisture seems to be much further east though :(. It looks like it is trending with the GFS.

downsouthman,

I think you will like the new 18z nam. It shows at least some snow flurries for you.

I would still like to see this trend a little further west. I think it will, but it'll be more of a Thursday night event for central TX.

I've seen mention on the local forum that watches may come as early as this evening. We will see. AS AFM and others have stated, all the parameters seem to be in place for a snow event for our area and if that is the case I would hope the NWS would err on the side of safety in order to get people to take notice and get ready for the event. If they issue watches and it doesn't happen, then nothing lost. If they don't and we get a major winter weather event and people aren't prepared because they weren't warned then they would have an even bigger PR and bonafide nightmare on their hands imo.

That is from this storm and it's mostly sleet.

That's the stuff already on the ground. It won't melt much by then. The stuff in S and SE Texas is new.

Full fludged flizzard going on right now over DFW. Showing up well on radar now.

One of the pro mets, can you explain if this 1000-850 mb thickness map from the NAM can be used to determine if it's cold enough for snow/frozen precipitation?
