The 18z gfs ensembles are much wetter! Most of them show a pretty good swath of snow from DFW to Austin to SA and down all along the Texas coast!

You know how earlier I said it didn't feel too bad outside? Well now that it's dark it's miserable outside. I can't stay out there longer than five minutes. Although I don't have layers. I need to layer myself.

It's currently 28° here and I've been below freezing since at least 4:15, when I noticed it was 31°. It's 30° at KFDM. I am just amazed, watching everything unfold north of here, and then here. Just wow @ this La Nina winter. lol
Posted this in the SE TX thread:
I just watched Greg Bostwick on KFDM. Their forecast is currently 40% snow/sleet Thursday and 70% snow/sleet Friday! He said it's too early to tell about accumulations, but they think we have a pretty good chance at seeing that.
He thinks our primary chance will be around daybreak Friday until early afternoon. Normally, we get snow at night, so if this actually happens, it will be quite the unusual event.
("normally, we get snow at night" haha that I can even say that!)
He also mentioned the very cold blast coming again next week, after a brief warm-up this weekend.
He mentioned over 50 mph gusts in the area this morning as well. I believe it!
My oh my.

That and the clouds and sky look different. I mean it just looks cold. Is there something to be said about that? Cold air is dense so I guess it looks different?

I just said that to my friend. I looked outside and told him "It just looks freaking cold" I was born a few months after the 89 outbreak. So this is the coldest I've been that I can remember. The wind just goes right through your clothes.

Yeah don't stay outside in it for too long. The wind is what's making it feel so miserable. I just took our dog out to potty and after 5 mins I was done. Need to wear a sweatshirt with hoodie and a coat with gloves.

I'm skeptical! We'll see though that sure would be nice. It'd be a little warmer then so maybe it wouldn't be impossible to go out in.

SREF (short range ensembles) suggest it would be more than just flurries.

Re: Texas Winter 2010-2011
Jeff Lindner, about 15 minutes ago, on KHOU:
Potentially a historic snow event in the making for SE TX. Models continue to trend wetter and while QPF is not all that int he GFS its moisture fields above the surface are for sure. Am starting to think the CMC is on the right track here and feel some impressive totals will be possible with meso scale banding. Could easily see 3-5 inches across the entire area with bands over 6-8 inches (my latest e-mail has a discussion of the thinking, if someone could post it). I could see someone getting a foot also, but who would forecast a foot of snow down here?
Interesting that the NAM wants to kick things off a bit earlier now on Thursday afternoon.
Suspect Watches will be hoisted tomorrow as we fall within 36 hours of the onset.

I hope it does. We're in need of a statewide snow event. That 5h low is too impressive to do nothing...

I built an outdoor ice rink -- flooded it yesterday morning. Woke up and it was 1 inch frozen thise morning. Progressed to about 2 inches frozen -- but the deepest part is 4 and 1/2 inches.... With a low of between 7 and 11 degrees tonight (various forcasts) -- what are my chances of this thing freezing all the way through tonight? I hope to skate on this tomorrow morning and play some keep away with the puck tomorrow.
I am a bit worried about the ground temps below the tarp I put down, and the top layer of ice insulating residual warmth.
Thanks!

Well...geez. Maybe I shouldn't be so skeptical. I love it when houston gets snow. Because I go to youtube and look up people who took video and are so surprised and amazed by it. It's even more special down there.

Ok, so I see lots of stars out there just now. Forecast says it will be
Tonight: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 6. Wind chill values between -7 and -12. Windy, with a north northwest wind between 15 and 25 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph
If those clouds are gone could we go lower?
Also, they say clouds in the forecast tomorrow. Do Arctic air masses clear out at night and cloud up during the day by chance?
