Should be snow too and not this nasty weird ice mix. Still a ways out though.

Not going to enjoy if the power goes out!

Not much of any sun down here. In fact we had one of our heaviest snow flurry shower action about 30 minutes ago.

We've been having rolling blackouts all day here. 2 already at my job & 2 so far at my house. They're lasting about 20 minutes, separated by 1.5 hours power.

Depends on if the temps in the upper levels get cold enough to support snow. Hou/Galv NWS goes over this in their latest discussion - http://forecast.weather.gov/product.php ... glossary=1

Someone wondered what cold skies look like (really, really cold skies tend to be clear but when snow is on the way the clouds tend to be heavy, low and an ugly grey): http://www.theweathernetwork.com/your_w ... er&lang=en (the snow pack that is up here is showing in the pic)

That's was me, thanks for sharing. You could have that that was taken down here and I would have believed you.

Any idea which way the clouds and such are moving? What's a good link for satellite images?

From what you said above Hockey I'm guessing you live in the flat plains of Texas?

Ever wondered what a blizzard looks like?

Here's a shot from Topeka, Kansas yesterday.

Hopefully some folks in S/E Texas (and maybe even over to Portastorm Weather Center land too) will look something like this on Friday... :D

Nope, I live north of Dallas by about 40 miles. Fairly good size city, no sky scrapers, but we have two universities in town. One has 36,000 students. But just north of me there are places that look like that. Go west and same thing. I have been out in the plains.

Where you live sounds like its about the size of my provinces largest city (Saskatoon). My city's population is 35,000.

Flat plains we have an ocean of and when a blizzard comes it is beyond nasty out there (esp when we are so underpopulated and it could be forever before one is found if you had to pull off the highway during a blizzard).

Because I don't feel like looking, what are those links to the Ensebles (NAM & GFS)?

Weather/power update -- State offices/agencies here in Austin are being asked to reduce power consumption to minimal levels and consider shutting down.

You know I am torn about wanting this stuff to melt. I really don't mind the time off, but I would like to be able to drive and we need to get back to normal. That sun sure is bright will all of the ice and snow to reflect off of.

Awww... we have a fireplace but in the 10 years we have been here we haven't used it. So we have no firewood. But we have gas heat, we can deal for 15 min.

They're closing schools early because of the rolling blackout.

We haven't actually lost power yet (knock on wood!) don't know why. My mom in Dallas and my sister in Lewisville have both had several blackouts already. Some places have lost power for 2 hours - because when they turn the power back on there's too much load and it causes the power to go off again.

22 here right now lowest I saw was 16.0
