LOUDOUN closed as well... took them long enough :)

I'm sure Howard will be doing the same within the hour.

Now that everyone's out of school let's enjoy the ice before it gets washed away!

Nope, not everyone :( I'm still on two hour delay in Stafford. Heavy icing down here, too. Icicles hanging off everything.

Don't worry, the closings are coming in fast now (Fairfax Loudoun Howard Montgomery just in the past 10-15 mins), and it looks like most of your bordering counties are closed. It's probably only a matter of time.

I would hate to go to DC Public schools..there never closed! They were orginally going to open on time...but they changed it to a two hour delay.

Heavy icing on everything on my drive up from Fredericksburg to Alexandria this morning. Roads are not bad, city has had trucks out. Back roads are pretty bad and sidewalks/driveways are sheets of ice. Looks a little worse than NWS predicted for many of us around D.C. metro this morning. Enjoy your day off from school.

Definitely -- LWX should have gone with a WSW for everyone from the cities west. Again, I think it's funny to look back at this week -- WSW and all schools closed Tuesday for a cold rain, then advisory and hedging till the last minute with schools today for a significant ice event.

For some reason they can never predict the level of cold air. This time it was more of an early start of precip. The last several systems have come into bone dry air and precip has been delayed by sometimes 6-8 hours. This time precip was to start around midnight and on my drive home at 6:30 pm. I got hammered with sleet.

Ice is getting pretty significant now...if you look at it right away, it looks like rain since it's coming down so heavy, but it's freezing. Main roads are OK for the moment, but I don't expect that to continue...

ICE, ICE BABY............................

There is a LOT of ICE out there, and guess what?

It is STILL 31 degrees, dewpoint's the same.

Some of this rain is still freezing. Icicles 4 to 7 inches long adorn everything. The roads probably got treated because they are okay but it's no time for a jebwalk on those sidewalks!! Man its an icy scene out there. NWS really underforecast the ice including yours truly. Winter weather advisory extended into 4pm for continued freezing rain.........................................

LOL! I saw the news..a lot of kids didn't make it on time as a lot could've already guessed. I can just imagine how many people went back to sleep after seeing the two hour delay, and then waking up,to find out they were open on time again, rushing to get to school after missing 2 hours of it already. LOL!

Much more ice than NWS predicted. I have 30.7 degrees. NWS forecasted 43 degrees. Not even close. 1/4 or more ice coating trees and breaking limbs off. Icicles up to 8 inches hanging off my patio. Now they lowered tonights low to 30 and added freezing rain back into the forecast for this afternoon and tonight.

Yep, more ice forecasted tonight, our high was 32 degrees, we picked up a third of an inch of ice and 1.5 inches of rain and we still have rain/freezing rain. There may be a coastal storm forming near the SE VA coast........Hmmmm..............I wonder what that would mean for later tonight...........

I just saw this on NBC4's website... this is not good... the fact that Stafford Co. schools did not close while everyone else around *might* explain this (although it's premature to blame it on the weather just yet)...
