I'd say you're getting in on some serious snow action, what little I received has now switched to moderate to heavy rain. Weather radar image link below is courtesy of WWL-TV 4.com, NOLA.

It's actually raining some now but it looks like we're about to get hammered with some heavy band in the next hour.

MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 2200
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
1118 PM CST FRI DEC 04 2009

AREAS AFFECTED...ERN MS...CENTRAL AND NRN AL...FAR NRN GA...ERN TN
AND FAR WRN NC

CONCERNING...HEAVY SNOW

VALID 050518Z - 051115Z

AN EARLY SEASON SNOWFALL EVENT WILL SHIFT OUT OF MS GENERALLY BY 09Z
AND TRANSLATE NEWD ACROSS CENTRAL/NRN AL AND FAR NRN GA INTO THE
MOUNTAINS OF TN/NC BY 09-12Z. HOURLY SNOWFALL RATES ARE EXPECTED TO
REMAIN LIGHT...THOUGH VISIBILITIES MAY BE REDUCED TO ONE MILE AT
TIMES.

PRECIPITATION ONGOING ACROSS MS/SERN LA IS FORECAST TO CONTINUE
SPREADING NEWD INTO AL THROUGH 09Z WITHIN A ZONE OF ASCENT OCCURRING
AHEAD OF A PROGRESSIVE S/W TROUGH. SURFACE OBSERVATIONS INDICATE A
RAPID CHANGE OVER FROM RAIN TO SNOW /WITH A MIXTURE OF SLEET IN SERN
LA/ HAS BEEN OCCURRING AS WET BULB COOLING DROPS TEMPERATURES TO
AROUND 32-35 DEG F. WITH SURFACE DEWPOINTS GENERALLY RESIDING IN THE
TWENTIES DOWNSTREAM FROM THE ONGOING PRECIPITATION
SHIELD...ADDITIONAL WET BULB COOLING TO NEAR FREEZING IS LIKELY AS
RAIN OVERSPREADS AL/NRN GA/ERN TN/WRN NC...WHICH WILL CONTINUE TO
SUPPORT A TRANSITION TO SNOW. HOWEVER...MODEL FORECAST GUIDANCE
INDICATES STRONGEST ASCENT WILL SHIFT AWAY FROM THE REGION DURING
THE OVERNIGHT...WHICH SUGGESTS THAT HOURLY SNOWFALL RATES WILL BE
LIGHT /GENERALLY UNDER A HALF INCH PER HR/.

Meh. This storm sucks. The precip is just evaporating as each radar frame comes in. I'm about ready to just forget this storm ever happened. LOL I was concerned about getting rain and not snow but it's not even raining.

Next!

I'm glad I never totally bought into this storm otherwise I'd be upset.

We got a snow storm. I don't know what time it stopped snowing. It never did turn to rain. Nothing has melted yet. It's white everywhere. I'm pleasantly surprised we didn't lose power. Settled out it looks to be about 2 inches. All the trees and bushes heavily laden with snow. 28.6F at sunrise. I could make one helluva snowman with this sticky stuff. I'm sure kids all around town will be having fun this morning!!!!!

Waiting on first visible from GOES.....see how big an area the snow covers.

Will you post any nice pics of your snow? It snowed light here for about 30 minutes last night, melted as soon as it hit the ground, lots of rain followed afterwards then the winds came in. Nice that you got some snow last night, maybe I'll get more next time so I can take some nice pics. It's colder here this morning, currently it's 35 degrees.

We got 1 1/2 to 2 inches of snow here. What was amazing was watching the 6A state championship football game televised from Jackson! It was snowing like crazy and by the end of halftime the field was covered with snow!

I've got some pics posted on facebook. Look for thedrake46@yahoo.com I'll have to add you as a friend in order for you to view.

Pictures from our snow event. This was around 8pm i guess when it first started to snow. We ended up with about 1.2 to 1.5 inches total.

I thought that you might want to see a graphic of the snow accumulation totals for last weekend's event. My coworker is quite a wiz with MS Excel. He made this graphic of reported accumulations >0.1":

And here's a visible satellite shot we saved from Saturday morning, showing snow on the ground across the region:

Thanks for the pics and the graphics. The graphic of the snow totals agrees with what I was able to observe here in my area of Houston. Based on observed depth and taking melting into account my estimate was 2"-3" and he shows us in that range.

The next storm to watch

LATE WEEK SYSTEM: With cold air in place, here comes our next impulse, which will produce precipitation across the Deep South late Friday, Friday night, into Saturday morning. While we will mention just a cold rain for now, I sure won’t be surprised if we have to consider some risk of snow, or even freezing rain, with this feature later in the week. We need to get the first storm system out of here before we can really focus on that one, but winter weather fans will want to keep up with
developments.

Looks more like an ice setup with an Appalachian CAD wedge than snow to me:

Brent,

This morning, Jackson, MS NWS mentioned the possibility of freezing rain toward the weekend, mainly for the MS Delta area. They said in this morning's discussion that they'd keep it all rain in the forecast for now, since the event was several days out.

Back the last weekend's snow event. Did any of you guys catch the 6A state football championship game being played in the snow in Jackson Saturday night? It was something I'd never seen before in Mississippi...high school football being played while snow was falling and accumulating on the field! :D

Here's a link to a pic of my house. Maybe it will work. Haven't figured out how to post pics on here yet :)
