Unfortunately, I'm afraid that a major ice storm is unfolding down south.

Sounded very serious a couple of hours ago and I bet it has only gotten worse.

It has gotten quite serious in many areas of metro Houston. Multiple, multiple vehicle accidents and at least on TXDOT truck overturned. Some talk of closing the freeways, but no confirmation yet. At least 1/8" ice glaze and growing in my area of W Houston. Not liking this at all!!

Were likely gaining on 4 inches now. My frozen pool has almost entirely disappeared under the snow.

US National Weather Service Fort Worth TexasThanks for all of the snowfall reports and please keep them coming. We don't have time to respond to many of your comments tonight, but we are reading them. That inital band of snow now moving up to the Red River is likely to be the heaviest and most intense snowfall we will see tonight. Lighter snow is expected to continue for a few more hours. Also we are getting sporadic reports of sleet south of I-20.

Moderate snow now in Denison.

Quickly covering up what wasn't already covered. We still have about 2" from the storm earlier in the week. Now we're going to add to that.

Wow...what a week of winter weather.

Any chance the ULL taps into the gulf moisture, and drops a dusting on top of all this ice?

I'm not trying to over estimate or sound crazy but let me know if you have a different opinion but from the looks of it it seems like we could have eight inches by the time it's over with.. Snowin heavily here an almost four inches already

Night,

Well, they did a really GOOD job on forecasting that initial band...so why should I believe them about the later bands?!? :D

I won't critique them (no one had a good handle on this) but this band that is coming through now is just about as heavy as the one from earlier. It does look like it might start being lighter after this, though. We'll see.

FROM DFW US National Weather Service Fort Worth facebook
Here is an updated snowfall accumulation forecast map. This includes what has already fallen earlier tonight. We are not planning on any upgrades to winter storm warnings at this time, but are closely watching areas east and northeast of the DFW metroplex where amounts will get close to 4 inches.

the graphic was posted above but wanted everyone to see the message included also.

Who knows at this point? I don't think anyone saw North Texas getting hammered the way we are tonight.

Apparently I30 at 45 is shut down. The camera shot shows this too with emergency vehicles stopping traffic.

Agreed, this storm is a surprise.

But I think some areas may see 5-8 inches before we're done, at least at the current rate of radar trends, reports.

To go from 1-2 inches in your forecast for areas SE of the Metroplex this afternoon to at least 4 and maybe a few inches more in the heart of the Metroplex is a complete bust IMO.

We are going to need some snow plows to clear the roads in the morning. Problem is we don't have any. I saw some on TV the other day but there were only a few of them. This is crazy, I wonder if the NFL will ever consider having another Super Bowl in NTX after this week of weather fun. I can't wait to see how traffic is come morning.

Exploring the San Antonio TXDOT cameras offers even more interesting snow/ice pics

If they were the same ones on TV I saw, I think I remember hearing that they were borrowed from Amarillo, and were already on their way back there on Wednesday.

Dallas county continues to get nailed. The bands are training and thickening as soon as they hit the county. Should get some impressive numbers from the city itself by morning.
