I was just about to ask about the all-time 24-hour record. 3 more inches doesn't seem unreasonable, looking at the radar.

Pete's 7:11 AM Feb 10th forecast: "rain/snow mix throughout tomorrow with light accumulations. any snow that falls will be very wet. a trace to 1" is possible."

http://twitter.com/wfaaweather/status/8900591253

Just a little off ;-)

Not sure about thundersnow this late with the heavier bands moving east of DFW. It seems more like it would be falling branches or trees but anything is possible.

RUC models says snow lingers a bit longer possibly till 2-3 am. KDFW guy confirmed his thoughts on it too adding another 1-2 inches to the totals. What the RUC is showing (and somewhat on radar atm) is the low pulling back moisture.

Looking more and more possible - this storm just won't quit.

Local KXII TV met here in Sherman/Denison said another 1-3" is possible for us up here in the Red River Valley before it ends, so I'd guess that's easily possible down in the Metroplex.

And I'd expect there's a good chance that DFW will be over 10" for the day when they update the Public Information Statement after 10 p.m. That'd be less than two inches away...

It could have been, but my neighbors tree branches were fall all day, and it was a bit of a different sound. I thought it was a power flash sound, but i didn't see any light flash.

My wife and I saw SEVERAL flashes of lightning on our drive from Midlothian to Grapevine this evening. VERY cool to see that. I never have.

Haslet has the foot so far with 12.2 and some reports of a foot around Midlothian. Decatur and parts of northern tarrant\parker county has several 11 with snow still falling.

Won't be easy to find. The official records are kept at the big airport.

Wow...congrats!!!! :D

After a White Christmas, that's what I'm still waiting on...seeing a foot of snow on the ground (outside of Colorado, that is!).

We've had 7" here in Sherman/Denison today according to local KXII TV met Steve LaNore.

Kind of an FYI, he reminded that it's our 4th heavy snowfall in Texoma in the last 22 months. We got anywhere from 12" to 17" combined in two big snows that fell during the first week of March 2008; the 2-10" snowfall that fell in Grayson and Cooke counties on 12/24/09; and now this today.

.UPDATE...

UPDATE REGARDING HISTORIC WINTER STORM CURRENTLY ONGOING OVER
NORTH TX AT THIS TIME...

WENT AHEAD AND EXTENDED THE VALID TIME OF WINTER WEATHER HEADLINES
TO 6 AM CST. THE PRIMARY REASON FOR THIS IS MONITORING 03Z WATER
VAPOR IMAGERY THERE IS A SECONDARY SHORTWAVE TROUGH DIGGING INTO
THE BACK SIDE OF THE SHORTWAVE THAT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE 8 TO 12
INCHES OF SNOWFALL THAT HAS FALLEN OVER THE METROPLEX IN THE PAST
18 HRS. JUST DOWNSTREAM OF THIS SECONDARY SHORTWAVE TROUGH HAVE
NOTICED 3-4 CG LIGHTNING STRIKES ACROSS WEST TX LATE THIS EVENING
ASSOCIATED WITH SOME SHOWERY ACTIVITY. SHORT RANGE GUIDANCE DOES
NOT SEEM TO BE RESOLVING THIS FEATURE WELL SO UNCERTAINTY
REGARDING THE EFFECTS OF THIS TROUGH WEIGHED IN THE DECISION TO
EXTEND THE WINTER WEATHER HEADLINES. DO NOT ANTICIPATE ANY
SIGNIFICANT REGENERATION OF WINTRY PRECIPITATION TONIGHT...BUT
THIS TROUGH...IF NOTHING ELSE...MAY SERVE TO HELP CONTINUED LIGHT
SNOWFALL PERSIST THROUGH THE EARLY MORNING HRS ACROSS NORTH TX.

That's the problem up here in Sherman/Denison...spotty weather records.

I queried Steve LaNore at KXII-TV back in March 2008 about the biggest snowfalls in Sherman/Denison history. If I remember his answer, they're hard to find prior to when the local TV station began diligently keeping such records (I kind of think that was in the late 1970s or early 1980s).

Such records might be buried somewhere in NWS records, U.S. Corps of Engineers records for Denison Dam, or old Perrin AFB records (which later became Grayson County Airport and is now North Texas Regional Airport).

But I wouldn't know how to find them.

Ok now that we're done with this system. Many of the pro mets in this forum and srain have mentioned that true cross polar flow will be setting up next week. This is very far out (but lets remember the GFS saw this system last week at around the same time frame). We may just be doing something like this all over again and then the really cold air settles in. (Several other guidance brings in the colder air also)

I hope this will be the system that gives the Austin\SA area along with S\E Texas some snow should it come to fruition.
