Using melted snow to help flush toilets. Fortunately I keep a good supply of drinking water anyhow so that's okay. City has a boil water notice but you can't boil what you don't have. Fortunately many folks are now getting power back today. Hopefully we all get water soon.
I don't think any one of us could have imagined such an outbreak.
I dunno -- Jeff Lindner had been warning for a long time...all last week with the warnings getting more dire as the system moved-in:
Last Thursday AM: "Preparations: To be clear…this is not our “normal” freeze and maximum preparations and precautions will be required for this outbreak."
Last Saturday AM: "Simply put the cold will result in devastating impacts to the region both to infrastructure and vegetation. Wind chills Monday afternoon into Tuesday will fall into the -1’s and 1’s over the entire area…this is extremely dangerous cold to exposed skin and persons should limit their time outdoors and make sure all exposed skin is covered." The in big, bold red text: "I cannot stress enough that maximum cold weather preparation MUST be taken to help attempt to mitigate significant property damage....Residents should be prepared for power outages."
Last Sunday AM: "The long duration of the sub-freezing temperatures along with the brutal intensity of the cold air mass is going to create extensive damage across the region to vegetation and infrastructure.....Residents should be prepared for power outages."
Then on Monday: "A brutal arctic air mass centering over the region will result in near all-time record low tonight. Intensity of cold will likely result in continued infrastructure failures with power, water, natural gas, and other services. Suffering tonight will be widespread, especially for those without power."
