Those nam snow maps have been weird most of the winter

I'm still expecting a lot of cold rain in the metro maybe an icy windshield or a fence

wunderground forecast seems to have backed off quite a bit on rain totals. Now calling for a 50% chance with <.10 of rain accum.

I think most of the significant rain will be over E TX where totals will range from .5" to over 2". This is shown by all models.

Yeah, its hard to get sig icing when you start well above freezing. Its better to start well below before precip to be a good ice event.

Gainesville and Sherman are both down to 30. Freeze line is now making steady progress and should be through Decatur shortly with the next outpost to watch being Denton and McKinney, both currently sitting at 36.

And when temps just a few thousand ft up are in the 45-50 Deg F range...this could be remembered as The Winter of the "Winter Weather Advisory Busts"

Had one of the bigger cells just pass over my house in north Fort Worth. Per my weather station temps actually dropped. But, despite being the heaviest part per the CASA radar, it was still very quick. So, perhaps it didn't have time to bring down warmer temps.

For me personally, I am basically giving up an expectation for any snow or major winter storms here. It's already close to mid-Feb. If we get something, awesome. If not, I won't be disappointed. Just bring a good severe weather season.....iffy with La Nina.

Freeze line moving steadily, right on time maybe a tad earlier. Decatur & Springtown already at 31. Denton down to 34 and dropping. But.. If temps are marginal with heavy rain it will be hard for any icing to occur. Light icing occurring already out west, I suspect after the sun goes down the stars may align for some brief light icing in Fort Worth.

Decatur down to 32 and McKinney down to 34. Cold air pouring in pretty quick now.

They're saying maybe a Wintery Mix tonight in the Hill Country. Cold rain for us. Rain is nice, but kind of miserable to drive in, and walk in when temps barely make it to the 40s. Temperatures actually dropped since this morning from the 50s.

Image
A frontal system will bring a chance for precipitation and colder air tonight. As the shallow layer of cold air moves into our north central area there will be a chance for a mix of freezing rain and rain. Chances for freezing rain will be north of a line from Rocksprings to Mountain Home to Llano. The wintry precipitation will arrive after 4 AM and no accumulation is expected. Precipitation will turn back to rain by about 8 AM.

Mine was at 38 just an hour and a half ago. So 6 degree drop in the time period since.

Wow, looking out of my north-facing office window at 121/DNT, I swear I see the occasional very heavy, wet snow grain mixing in with the rain. 33 degrees at this location.

that makes sense as every weather station i've gone to in weatherbug for Frisco says 30 to 31 except for those sites that are using mckinney airport which is still at 34. Freeze line appears to dip through Frisco and Plano, unless the fire stations have bad equipment.
