NW and W side of Austin is about to get in on the heavier stuff.

WacoWx wrote:Where is this Low centered at this point? I'm trying to get a fix on the duration of this event here in Waco. Snow not coming down like it was and its not sticking, but the temp is ~33 so its understandable. REALLY wanting some accumulating snow here!

If the NAM is to be believed, the heaviest stuff is going to slide just to your south and east. Doesn't mean it might not creep up to Waco. Still expect periods of light snow much of today.

I have to get off here for a little bit have some stuff to do but look for my thoughts later
for you folks in N.TX also up into OK for the system heading our way for SUN/MON timeframe..
i will say this in my opinion its still looking BIG from all models i have seen and "COULD VERY
WELL BE THE "BIG DADDY OF THEM ALL
"
strong storm system very tight with winds poss
a issue, very heavy blowing snow could see high drifts, closed roads due to snow pack
and possibly widespread power outages.... stay tuned more thoughts on this later

An observation I am getting from watching radar:

The rain out in front of the storm looks to be cooling the air just enough to get it within the range necessary for the storm.. I think thats whats happening with Austin right now.. This could be good news for east texas as long as temps can stay reasonably low, that cold rain will help out ALOT

That's how it is mostly with winter storms here in Texas, the heavy rain can cool (wet bulbing cools the temperature down close to the dewpoint) and turn it over to snow but at the same time that rain will limit accumulations with wet surfaces.

Warmer than expected? I thought they were saying it'd start out at 38 in the AM, falling to around 33-35 during the afternoon, but it's 33 [according to my truck] in Round Rock, not too much further north.

Considering that DFW just had the "BIG DADDY" two weeks ago, I can't fathom a storm that could be bigger than that one. I would love to see it happen, but I'm doubtful, especially 6-7 days out. Still crossing my fingers that you're right!

annd if i remember correctly, isnt the main potentiall convective energy with this system supposed to arrive in Cent Texas after noon? I'm looking at a radar that appears to be keeping the heavier precip south of Waco for the remainder of the morning. Is their gonna be another heavier band situation develop as the Low approaches?

It might not be the "big daddy" for Dallas in particular, but on a regional scale it could definitely rank up there with some of the other big ones this winter. Its still too early for serious and precise predictions just yet, but it looks like the potential is definitely there for *someone* to get hit pretty hard by heavy snow and wind late this weekend into early next week.
