Good news (for me) with the 00Z Euro in that it went as much as 23 degrees warmer than yesterday's 12Z run for temps in Texas next week. Look up to the sky today if you happen to see a stray sleet pellet hit the ground and melt instantly and kiss winter goodbye. Here comes spring! Probably a colder version of spring than I'd like, but at least it will be warmer than recent weeks.

And less cold air with the latest GFS run. Only one light freeze in Dallas-Ft. Worth next week. It even has a beautiful 80F in NE TX Friday!

Image

As a side note, last evening's 00Z GFS had considerably colder weather for NE TX next week, but I'll choose to ignore that run and believe the latest and greatest GFS run... ;-)

0.43 inches overnight at the Weatherdude1108 Center. We even had lightning and thunder (in the 40s) with the dog jumping up into the bed.

I can't remember the last time it rained that much at once. Probably November or December(??). Been patchy light rain and mostly drizzle since between dry, fire weather fronts. Nice change! :)

So you have finally decided to cave and abandon hopes of a mild spring alas! This spring could end up colder than last spring, and that's saying something...! Source region is much colder!

Give it a few hours models giveth they will taketh away your warmth.

DFW has not registered a freeze today, it's still falling from last night and was at 33 at 7:53 AM. We may or may not get there this morning, we will have another chance tonight before midnight for today. If we do today will be 50th freeze, if not tomorrow will be 50th (or it could be 51st). 51 is the mark for 1976-1977 and 1983-1984 some big company. 53 is the magic number for top 5.

Well the 9AM temperatures updated at DFW hit that freeze! 50th, tomorrow will be 51st.

Waco is at 61 obliterated their all time record and still adding. But it's Waco though, their station now is hotter than everyone else, wetter than everyone else, and has more freezes than Amarillo (not really but it seems like it)!

I'm really getting a kick out of watching wxman57 model hugging. Poor fella is just desperate for spring to begin. :cheesy:

Meanwhile, it'll be interesting to see if the GFS/NAM are right for Austin's weather today. Overnight runs of those models showed heavy sleet falling at times in the AUS metro area later today.

EWX just posted a local storm report of sleet in Georgetown.

Srain beat me to it, didn't see his post.

Valid Monday courtesy of the 12z GFS. 1050+ Arctic high, a southern storm that the models have no idea what to do with. Mixed bag of stuff followed by more cold. March in like a Lion. It tooketh from wxman57. DFW back in teens (single digits to the w nw towards the falls).

My trees have started to bud this week after the beautiful weekend and that sticky syrup was all over my car the other day. Hoping the cold weather doesn't kill the buds, I guess if it doesn't actually freeze it won't, right. Neighbors yard is full of little purple flowers and I've got a nice tulip coming up.

We should just file away that 12z GFS run, it's ungodly cold for spring. Maybe the Euro will stay warmer!

Well I don't mind the first half of the spring being very cold, but I still want a severe storm season so I would like the 2nd half to be a little warm. :D

As the upper air disturbance continues to move E out of the Hill County/Central Texas, I would not be surprised to see a few reports of sleet near the College Station area where the temperature has dropped to 39F. That cold pocket aloft may drop a sleet pellet or two as far S as Montgomery and Walker Counties on E into the Piney Woods of E Texas. My temperature has dropped to 46F in NW Harris County the past hour from 48F.

This is funny, the line for Warm Spring and Slow Spring seems to go right down the Tarrant/Dallas county line

Ok so I don't actually live in Roanoke, its my relative location. But I do live only about 5-7 miles to the northwest of that line. So I guess that means that while it would be 80 here, it will be 50 just on the other side of the lake.

We need 12z GFS meteograms for DFW, Austin, and Houston!

Here's a potential horrible consequence of this cold winter. My avatar pic will be happy though.

Cold winter hard on crawfish supply
Published Jan 30, 2014 at 10:12 am (Updated Jan 30, 2014)

People planning Super Bowl crawfish boils this weekend may be out of luck. Crawfish farmers from across Louisiana say the cold has kept crawfish scarce all winter, and now many ponds are iced over. The prolonged cold also means crawfish aren't eating and are likely to be smaller than normal at the peak of crawfish season, says farmer David Savoy of Church Point. People may even have to order ahead at the peak of the season, says Craig Lutz, an LSU AgCenter professor and aquaculture specialist. "I think it's fair to say that when we get to Mardi Gras and we get to Easter, we're definitely going to be behind what we would be in a normal season.
