Their calling for 1 to 2 inches of snow along the coast and it's a Winter Storm Warning. If we expect 1 to 3 inches it's normally an advisory.

The criteria is different for different areas. DFW's criteria is around 0F or lower wind chill. Winter storm warnings are usually for 4" of snow or more (ice notwithstanding). Further north of here our criteria is just advisories, for instance in New England.

Ok, that's what I was thinking, but you have clarified it.

Or could it be that us North Texans are better drivers than or South Texas friends?? :P :P :roflmao: :slime: :moon: :moon: :moon:

We have some, emphasize some, experience driving, dressing for it. We do it at least once or twice a year. Down there it can be decades for an event so some grow up never having experience. You might know to wear layers of clothing rather than just a jacket while down there they might just toss on a wind breaker and not know any better or not even own that many.

I know I've had my share of it over the years! Especially ICEMAGEDDON!!!

I use to work for the State and I drove the roads on a twelve hour shift reporting road conditions to sanding crews. I ended up trapped in traffic hell in Palo Pinto County on Interstate 20 overnight for 13 hours in the same spot...... :double:

You folks getting snowed in places that don't see much snow ... enjoy it! Take lots of pictures and make some memories.

At least we got rain. :) and there was a slight wintery mix with some tiny ice pellets mixed in late last night.

Just had a look at the 18Z sounding from U of H. Freezing level is at about 2500 ft (768m). Entire precip column is sub-freezing, as the models were predicting. No warm nose. Will have a skew-T shortly.

I am not Wxman 57...lol..but it means there is not a warm layer between when the precipitation starts as snow and when it ends up on the surface. With a warm nose, you get..snow...falling..then melting ( warm nose) and then refreezing...nearer the surface. That usually ends up being sleet or in some cases...freezing rain if it freezing up to 1000 feet.

I'm near Eldorado (San Angelo) today and there was a little light snow for about a half hour this morning. Good luck to you guys in the Winter Storm Warning area!

Saw a few flurries here in Tyler just a few minutes ago. Not much, but it is nice since it wasn't forecasted here.
Enjoy it down south.

Whew, definitely feels like winter here. This time last year I was getting our first and really only snowstorm, but not only did our trees have leaves, some of them were still green! This year since we actually had a fall(and didn't go from 65 degrees to 5 degrees in a few days lol) most of our trees are bare. It's 27 degrees today and we have some light snow falling and might get 1-2 inches this weekend. It's great that our South Texas buddies are getting to enjoy the white fluffy stuff today. The first snow of the season is always my favorite, and for a lot of this this will probably be the first snow after many seasons. :D

The Nam is a tad further north with its heavier snow.. Victoria would be in the 2-4 inch range if it verifies, it also shows a heavy band of snow setting up along HWY59!!! Keeps reminding me of 04 every model run

Thank you for sharing those soundings wxman57. Defiinitely cold enough aloft for all snow.

WSW for Rgv20 our poster down that way.

MOS GFS and MOS NAM both has DFW at 24 for a low tonight. If clouds clear that seems like a good ballpark, if not then maybe closer to 28

My son was only a baby in 2004 and my daughter was 6 years old. My daughter and I had a blast on my surf board! I told my son that it might snow and he freaked! I said mother nature can play tricks so don't get too excited until you see it.

Yes our Winter Weather Advisory Criteria is very low compared to the rest of you all but remember that its rare to get any kind of frozen precipitation here in deep south texas. Now as far as the heat well thats a different story...for a Heat Advisory the following needs to be met, heat index value of 111+ for 2 or more hours on consecutive days.
