Re: Texas Winter 2013-2014
So is it me or do I have a real good chance of getting hammered by this storm?

Good chance of a sleet/freezing rain mix for you. Real good chance.

No, it needs to budge with the 850mb temps, it's actually not that far away from sleet/snow event which would likely be the NW counties nudge that about 50 miles SE. The strongest areas of wind is also in North Texas and Central Arkansas, we do not want freezing rain.

Latest GFS is certainly not a good sign. This looks like it's going to be the "real deal" as Guy Fieri might say...if he was a meteorologist and not a chef.

Unfortunately, the latest GFS Skew T for DFW is still showing 850-800 mb temps hovering around 4-6 deg C for the duration of the heaviest precip....not good, not good at all

High winds coming. Many North Texas trees with a fair amount of leaves still on them. Countless trees weakened by drought and heat, especially from the summers of 2011 and 2012. And potentially bitter Arctic cold coming with possible single digit temperatures next week. If some of these QPF's are right and we get primarily freezing rain from this event, this could be an ice storm disaster in the making.

Re:
I know this isn't the sw/se LA forum, which is dead by the way, but our nws office is not even forecasting rain for that time period. Highs in the mid to low 50's and lows in the upper 30's. Is this the first run showing anything like this over here?

Tonight's 0z GFS is also continuing to show an increased potential for freezing rain across portions of south central and southeast Texas on Saturday.

It's putting down 0.5 to 1+ of FRZR for the entire metro. The biggest amounts are the eastplexers.

No, no, no, no!!! NO! We at Storm2K do not do that naming winter storm crap over here. We have integrity. We have dignity.
I know you didn't know HockeyTx82, but now everyone knows. I'll suspend for three days the first person that starts using "names" for winter storms in this thread.

OK, I'm joking about the suspension but I personally loathe the naming of winter storms by a certain media company.

Yep The McWeather ShowTM had retired "Cleotis" a few years back.

Thank you Porta! I can't stand how TWC does that. It's so dumb imo. Winter storms shall remain nameless (unless Porta gets several inches of snow this winter, in which case it would be called the Portastorm!

I agree, my bad. I heard it on the local news just now and rolled my eyes. I had heard that it was happening but never really paid attention to any of it.

Not that I see.. Its putting 1.0+ QPF all the way in Eastland county.. 1.25 in the Metro and over 1.5 in the eastaplex.. That is what I have in the high res as well...

And not to skip everyone else, Those along the Red River is a sleet/snow but mostly sleet event. DFW would get a dosing of sleet ontop of the ice after the FRZR. The freezing rain extends to the northern burbs of Austin (as far as the first storm).
