No snow tonight I can find...boundary layer temps are too warm.

Nearly dry adiabatic from 850 mb to the surface...

Sounds like winter cancel south of the Red River. Probably one last grasp around Easter (usually a cold snap during that time every year) upward from now on then it's onward to full spring!

Once again, wxman's expertise proved to be right on the money with this storm.

This time of year you have to use lower thicknesses for snow...534....there wasn't enough cold surface air to play with. It should be a warm-windy spring-like weekend ahead.

What I think that the GFS is doing is forecasting accumulating snow if the 850mb temp reaches 0C. The current system has such cold air aloft, but the airmass below 850mb is above freezing, so the snow melts on the way down. It's an unusual setup for the deep south, and the GFS just isn't programmed to handle it.

They need to fix that in the GFS code.

There's a lot to fix in the GFS code.

I guess that would depend on your definition of Winter. :cheesy: I just know I am ready for it to be warmer than it has been for the last 3 months!!

None of the models indicate anymore snow or ice for much of Texas for the next few weeks (possibly until next fall\winter). Hints of maybe one last cold push at the end of the month but averages are starting to rise nicely so threats for hard freezes are diminishing. Other than that, nice weather is coming via seasonal temperatures with maybe periodic thunderstorms! At least for now it's a safe to say winter cancel for Texas (outside of the panhandle) :sun: :sun: :sun:

With all the moisture in the ground things should be blooming nicely in NTex over the next few weeks.. as long as the bloom in question wasn't killed or toppled over along the way!

Had the coldest day in 13 years, and the biggest snow event ever. Still hasn't sunk in after so many years of warm winters.

Here are some interesting facts about the February and Winter in the arklatex.

http://forecast.weather.gov/product.php ... suedby=SHV

THE MODERATE EL NINO IN PLACE ACROSS THE EQUATORIAL PACIFIC SINCE
THE LATE SUMMER MONTHS HAS CONTRIBUTED TO ONE OF THE COLDEST AND
SNOWIEST WINTERS ON RECORD ACROSS THE FOUR STATE REGION. MANY OF
THESE RECORDS ARE ATTRIBUTED TO A VERY COLD AND SNOWY FEBRUARY, WHERE
AVERAGE MONTHLY TEMPERATURES WERE SOME 7 TO 9 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL

Check out the link to see actual data and temperatures. I thought it was fun to read!

There's a lot to fix in the GFS code.

That ain't no lie...I have seen the code and played with---it is horribly written.

I see more freezes later this month with this pattern.

:uarrow: At least I know I wasn't imagining things when I looked at the 12z GFS. I couldn't believe what I was seeing, at least not for our area. I realize 348 hrs is a long way out, but geez!!! This winter has been so different here that now 60f is starting to look warm to me!

How cold, when, and is it for the Houston area? It may be wise to wait before I start my garden.
Thanks.
