Re: Texas Winter 2024-2025
This was reported this month. In my uneducated opinion, winter is not over, but just getting started.
The chief meteorologist for the Energy Reliability Council of Texas says this winter is shaping up to have a period of extreme cold that could look similar to 2021.
Chris Coleman, speaking to the board on Tuesday, said winter patterns in the state were shaping up to look like 2021 when a winter storm brought a pattern of extreme cold and challenged the state’s electric grid.
"The more I look at this winter," Coleman said. "The more cold potential I see."

This just happened 10 min down the road from me. And I’m stuck at work so I couldn’t go chase. Sucks!
Stay safe down there!

Thanks man! I was frustrated cuz I’ve never seen one in person (besides a funnel years ago) before and today I would’ve had a good opportunity to see one. Tornadoes are rare down here in these parts. Seeing one in person is definitely on my bucket list. I picked up .70” on Christmas Eve and another .85” today so altogether that’s 1.55” this week. Very pleased in that department!

I remember going ice skating down the streets in Carrollton when I was still living at home because I was in high school.

You and me both brother.
I went to the snow bowl between A&M and Miss State in Shreveport. Tried to drive back to Longview. Got to Hallsville exit and slid over a bridge and down off the back side of the bridge into the median. The median had a foot and a half deep snow bank.

Picked-up 2.61” up here. Almost 6” for the month of December. The drought should be erased across Montgomery County for now.
The GFS still gets some folks every winter

Yeah everything good has been at 300 hours

What's crazy is how far out it still is. I remember when Christmas was gonna be 70 degrees at this range... This is the warmest it's been since Monday at 53 right now

It does look like that the GFS has consistently for the last couple of days been trying to bring cold / winter ISH type weather south for the week of January 5th. Maybe it is trying to latch onto something.

As much as we like to get a good laugh out of the GFS in the long range , when it comes to sniffing out potential big cold outbreaks, it actually has done pretty well in the long range of seeing some sort of outbreak, sniffed out the februrary 2021 outbreak as well as december of 2022 before any of the other models got into range, I think it has at least some weight to it on the longer range runs

I’m reading the ensembles somewhat agree.
