Enjoy this winter...unlikely to see this again for the next 20 years.
good. It can stop anytime!

Wow,
I did not expect the amount of snow thats out there this morning. 4.8 inches here in Wylie and it looks like we still have a couple of hours of precip still ahead of us. What a winter here in DFW! The weather service had a fairly good handle on this one, higher amounts than they expected, but that seems to be the norm this winter, go el nino!

WOW. I just got home. Drove up 35E to Gainesville, then went US 82 to Sherman, and US 75 back down. The roads are covered with snow, the bridges are totally snowpacked, and the snow and wind is so heavy....it's like driving in an extremely dense fog, on ice and with a 40mph wind pushing you off to the side. It was a rush!
We have three inches on the parked truck, and what looks like five inches on the grass here in Garland.

Unbelievable. My kids are gonna expect this every Winter now.

I'm guessing 3-4" here in Rockwall and still coming down pretty hard with the wind blowing. Streets look drivable, so we'll be heading out later to a nearby middle school that has a very nice hill for sledding.
Here's some pics.

Any word on road conditions S of the metroplex? There are icey spots between Roanoke and S Dallas. Thinking about 360 S to 287 since I-20 is basically closed S of Dallas.

Ntxw wrote:GFS and RUC both develop wrap around nicely. If the system is slow enough, might just do some good with accumulations.
Eastplexers for once looks to be the best bet. Models always seem have problems working with deepening systems when it comes to pinpointing exactly where and how precip develops.
Curious to see what it does after it closes off and deepens rapidly in the coming hours.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say this, but I think from the metroplex-ish eastward, there could be more snow than probably predicted. This is based on how the low will intensify (extremely) and simply sit out and stall for awhile. That is going to ring back tremendous backlash for a prolonged period of time ontop of very cold temps aloft and near freezing below, I don't see why it couldn't bring some nice snow totals should that materialize. RUC has it about from 10pm to sunrise of snow that could get heavier as the night goes. The far northern parts of S\E Texas might get clipped also.

I want to give props to Ntxw for making this prediction yesterday morning. Looks spot on. Nice job.

I have almost 6 inches on my car here in NE Dallas, didn't really expect that we would get that much last night!

Just doing my job for us fellow weather enthusiasts =P. Some of the snow totals in Collin County around Plano is quite surprising. I'm sure no one had 7-8 inches predicted. Quite impressive. Even though DFW didn't set the record (came very close) once again, us in the metroplex got to enjoy more snow on the first day of spring!
This is probably a benchmark season for many of us. Even though the Airport might not (probably the way they measure exactly to standard), many has seen nearly 20 inches of snow for the season throughout the metroplex. I'm ready for the REAL Spring!

Our 1st day of Spring was COLD!! It was brutal last night. 30s with gusty winds, making it feel about 30 below.

Had several hours of light snow from around 2 AM to 4 PM today. Sadly nothing stuck. I estimate dusting to .1" fell (not accumulated

).

So, is anything else on the horizon? We're only half an inch away from the record at DFW airport (which had 3 inches less than I did last night...but to be fair, had 2 inches more than I did on Christmas Eve, and probably 2 inches more than I did during February Snowmaggeddon)
I mean, what's a half an inch of snow? How rare can that be?

It can snow in April, but the odds of accumulating snow at DFW in April is so rare (has never gotten more than a trace on any April day). It's more likely (God forbid) for the airport to get stuck by a tornado maybe even twice before it snows given where we live.
